  • 1. “A DRUNKEN SALESMAN, “THEY SAY YOU’RE YOUR HEARING DAMAGE, GETTING BETTER, YOUR MIND IS RESTLESS” BUT YOU DON’T FEEL ANY BETTER” THOM YORKE: HEARING DAMAGE “AND YOU CAN DO NO WRONG, IN MY EYES”LINK TO TWILIGHT:THIS SONG IS PLAYED DURING I DID NOT USE ANY OF THE LYRICSTHE SCENE VICTORIA IS BEING IN THE TRAILER, BUT NEVER THECHASED BY THE WOLVES. LESS, THE SONG IS ABOUT HEARING THINGS YOU DON’T WANT TO. INITIALLY, YOU DON’T CHOSE, OR CONTROL WHAT YOUEASILY HEAR AND THAT SCARES YOU.RECOGNISED:FANS OF THE MOVIE WILLRECOGNISE THE SONGAND WILL BE INTRIGUED. LINK TO FULL SONG: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P7nz6-UVrmUTHOUGHT BEATS:THE INTRODUCTION OF THESONG CREATES OPPORTUNITIESTO EDIT THE TRAILER INCORRELATION WITH THE http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c6AqQrbZvZkRHYTHM. AN EXAMPLE OF MUSIC THAT SUITED THE TRAILER WOULD BE HOLLYOAKS: BLACK WEDDING.
  • 2. AT THE BEGINNING, THE MUSIC IS A SLOW DRAWL, TO EMPHASISE THAT SOMETHING IS GOING TO HAPPEN… BECAUSE THE MUSIC WAS FAST-PACED, THE TRAILER HAD TO BE THE SAME. I USED ONLY THE KEY LINES OF DIALOGUE TO MAKE THE EDITINGTOWARDS THE END, ESPECIALLY THROUGH THE PRECISE AND ONLYFIGHT SEQUENCE, THE BEATS BECOME MORE LETTING THE AUDIENCEFREQUENT AND HEAVY – CREATING A CLIMAX. HEAR THE KEY DETAILS.
  • 3. USED TO GIVELEADING NARRATIVESTATEMENTS TODRAWAUDIENCE IN THE AUDIENCE ALWAYS ASSUMES THAT CONFLICT WILL OCCUR IN SOAP OPERAS, SO THEY KNOW THAT THE THREE BOYS WILL FIGHT. I TRIED TO PUT ACROSS THE MORAL OF THE STORY: IF YOU BLACK AND PURPLE, FIGHT AND FALL, WHO CORRESPONDS WITH WILL BE THERE TO PICK E4 BRANDING. YOU BACK UP?
  • 4. WE RELIED HEAVILY ON OUTSIDENATURAL LIGHTING. EVEN THOUGHSOME OF THE ORIGINAL SCENES WEREMEANT TO BE IN THE DARK, THERE WASNO WAY WE COULD GET GOOD ENOUGHFOOTAGE – WE RESORTED TO FILMING INLATE AFTERNOON, SO IT STILL LOOKEDLIKE IT WAS GOING DARK. WE ALSOCHOSE LOCATIONS THAT WEREINCONSPIUOUS, SO IT LOOKED LIKE ITWAS REAL LIFE.WE USED HIGH AND LOW CAMERAANGLES TO MAKE THE CHARACTER’SSTATUS IN THE FIGHT SHOW. AGAIN THISSCENE SHOULD’VE BEEN IN THE DARK,BUT BECAUSE THE CAR PARK WAS EMPTY,WE DECIDED THAT IT STILL LOOKED ASTHOUGH A FIGHT WAS DESTINED TOOCCUR.
  • 5. PREGNANCY TEST: A TYPICAL STORYLINE/SOCIAL PROPS THEME – SIMPLE BUT EFFECTIVE. TEENAGE PREGNANCY IS A GROWING MORAL PANIC AND THE FACT THAT BREE IS SAT IN THE COLLEGE TOILETS LETS THE AUDIENCE KNOW JUST HOW YOUNG SHE IS.DRUGS:SALT IN A ZIPPER BAG ( THE MOST REALISTICSUBSTITUTE) – RELATABLE AND SHOWSCHARACTERS TURNING TO BAD THINGS TOGET AWAY FROM THEIR LIVES. ANOTHERSOCIAL THEME; THERE IS A GROWING MORALPANIC ABOUT TEENAGERS AND DRUG USE. SINGLE ROSE: KATE HAS BEEN LEFT AT THE ALTER, SHE KNOWS MASON IS NOT GOING TO ARRIVE, THE FALLING ROSE SIGNIFIES HERSELF.
  • 6. LOCATIONS AND COSTUMES: CHAPEL: SHOT-GUN WEDDING, UNPREPARED. IT LOOKS MORE LIKE A REGISTRY OFFICE THAN A CHURCH, SO IT IMPLIES THAT THEY DIDN’T HAVE TIME TO PREPARE. PINK DRESS: LAST-MINUTE DECISION, SHOWS HER ATTITUDE TOWARDS WEDDINGS.PUB CAR PARK: LINKS TO BINGE DRINKING – FIGHTSSTART UNDER THE INFLUENCE OF ALCOHOL. “TAKE ITOUTSIDE, BOYS”.HOODIES: STEREOTYPICALLY WHAT TEENAGE BOYS WEAR,HELPS AUDIENCE TO RELATE. JOHNNY ALSO USES AN EMPTYPINT GLASS BEFORE HE IS CONFRONTED BY RAV, TO SHOWTHAT HE HAS BEEN WAITING FOR RAV TO APPEAR – ASTHOUGH THE FIGHT WAS PLANNED; WHICH IS CONFIRMEDAT THE BEGINNING OF THE TRAILER. TOILETS: BREE IS WAITING FOR RESULTS, THEY ARE BASED IN A COLLEGE, THE CHARACTERS ARE STILL YOUNG YET THERE ARE MANY THINGS THAT ARE HAPPENING TO THEM. DRESS: OFF-WHITE, NOT AS INNOCENT AS WE FIRST THOUGHT.
  • 7. INSIDE THE PUB: DARK AND SHIFTY – CORRELATES WITH WHAT THE BOYS ARE TALKING ABOUT ; BEATING UP RAV. THE PUB IS ALSO EMPTY – GIVES THE IMPRESSION THAT THE TWO SHOULD NOT BE THERE AND THAT NO ONE REALLY ENJOYS THEIR COMPANY. CASUAL: THE BOYS ARE DRESSED AS THOUGH THEY ARE ENJOYING A NIGHT OUT WITH ‘FRIENDS’.BENCH OUTSIDE PUB: NEEDED TO BE BRIGHTER, BREE HAS FOUND ACONFIDENT IN RAV. BUT IT IS STILL DULL, IMPLYING THAT RAV WILL NOTREACT WELL TO BREE TELLING HIM.COATS: BLACK COATS SIGNIFIES THE DEATH OF SOMETHING; COULDMEAN THE DEATH OF A CHARACTER, OR HER RELATIONSHIP WITHRAV/JOHNNY? AN ENIGMA IS CREATED AS BREE HAS AN ACCIDENT LATERON IN THE TRAILER. PLAY AREA/PARK: AT FIRST WE WERE NOT SURE WHETHER WE WANTED A PLAY AREA, BUT WE REALISED THAT THE CHARACTERS COULD BE PORTRAYED AS STILL HAVING CHILDISH TENDENCIES. THEY MAY HAVE GROWN UP PLAYING IN THIS PARK, IT IS ANOTHER CENTRAL SOCIAL MEETING PLACE. COAT: HE IS WEARING A BLACK COAT, IN THIS SCENE IT MEANS DANGER, HE IS BACK IN TOWN BUT NO ONE KNOWS THE REAL REASON WHY. ALSO HE WAS OUTCAST IN THE FIRST PLACE, HE IS WEARING BLACK OT SIGNIFY HIS LONELINESS STREET: VERY URBAN AREA, AUDIENCE CAN RELATE IF THEY ARE IN THE WORKING CLASS DEMOGRAPHIC. WE CHOSE A STREET FILLED WITH TERRACED HOUSES TO GIVE THE IMPRESSION THE CHARACTERS LIVED IN AN OVER-POPULATED TOWN. COAT: HE IS WEARING A BLACK COAT TO SIGNIFY THE DEATH OF KATE’S LOVE FOR HIM.
  • 8. SOMETIMES THE CHARACTER’S COSTUMES PORTRAYED THEIR ATTITUDES AND FEELINGSIN SITUATIONS: EG. SASHA WEARS A BLACK LEATHER JACKET – HARD HITTING, SHE IS THE TOWN ‘BITCH’ SO IT GIVES HER POWER. IN THIS SCENE, SHE HAS SAVED RAV FROM JOHNNY AND MASON, BUT DOES SHE REALLY CARE? SHE OFTEN WEARS AN ALMOST MASCULINE FACADE, MAKING HER INTIMIDATING TO THE OTHER CHARACTERS.
  • 9. I PERIODICALLY PLACED SLOW- MOTION HEAD TURNS INTO MY TRAILER TO EMPHASISE WHO THE CLIPS AND DIALOGUE WERE REFERRING TO. I FELT THAT IF THERE WERE MORE THAN ONE MAIN CHARACTER, EACH WITH THEIR OWN STORYLINE, RUNNING PARALLEL TO EACH OTHER, THE AUDEINCE WOULD BE MORE INTRIGUED. I ALSO FOUND THAT CORONATION STREET AND EASTENDERS DIDI MADE THE LAST SEQUENCE OF SHOTS SLOW-MOTION TO THIS; THEY WOULD HAVE A NEWEMPHASISE THAT EACH AND EVERY ON OF THEM HAVE STORYLINE EACH WEEK, BUT ONLYEQUAL IMPORTANCE IN THE SOAP. IT CREATES TENSION IN ONE WOULD TAKE CENTRESTAGE –THE AUDIENCE BECAUSE THEY WANT TO FIND OUT UNTIL IT WAS SOLVED.EVERYTHING THAT WILL HAPPEN.
  • 10. THROUGH THE LAST SLOW-MOTION SHOTS, A ‘HASH-TAG’LINK APPEARS. THIS ALLOWSFANS TO JOIN ON SOCIALNETWORKING SITES AND BEUPDATED. THIS IS THETECHNOLOGY PHENOMENONOF THE 21ST CENTURY – ASOCIAL NORM, EVERYONEKNOWS WHAT IT MEANS. HERE IS A FACEBOOK PAGE I CREATED FOR THE SHOW:
