  • 1. Company: Textbook-rental service Chegg Inc. helps college students avoid paying top dollar for textbooks. Instead, Chegg rents books for as little as a third of their retail price. In addition to its online services, the company has forged retail partnerships with bricks-and-mortar college book stores across country. Challenge: Need to manage, on a single platform, a rapidly expanding business with both an online sales channel and retail partnerships spread across North America.  Complex codebase with lack of documentation  No structured release process  Lacked an agile approach for short-timeframe delivery Solution: Working closely with Systems In Motion, Chegg successfully scaled their application development team to manage the fast growing and dynamic E-Commerce platform. The Inshore team integrated seamlessly with Chegg across the application, business intelligence, and operations groups. Systems In Motion’s solution included:  Deploying an application development team for the open-source platform supporting critical revenue generating processes with online retailing connected to brick-and-mortar stores  Mapping and documenting process flow and internal processes for release management  LAMP (Linux, Apache, MySQL, PHP) development best practices  Application performance optimization through SQL queries and other tools  Re-factoring existing code for increased performance and improved design Results: A streamlined, scalable and integrated team as an extension to Chegg’s internal resources, in a cost effective delivery model leveraging the US mid-west talent pool.  Successfully launched tool for measuring Search Engine Optimization effectiveness  Improved customer experience through enhanced feedback loop  Faster time-to-market for new products and services Technology Competencies: Linux, Apache, MySQL, php, Agile development.
