  • Thanks, cwodtke for adding that. I actually aggregated a bunch of blog responses to this panel here: http://xianlandia.com/te-amo/2007/03/30/blog_responses_to_my_sxsw_panel.html

(I'm hoping to do a followup panel focused on reputation at the next sxsw.)

  • David Malouf (n'e Heller) documented his name change in his blog, detailing much of the bureaucratic rigmarole (see the next two slides for more).

Liz Henry blogged about how this anecdote was received in her vicinity: http://liz-henry.blogspot.com/2007/03/sxswi-attention-panel.htm

  • I didn't know Leslie Harpold as well as some at SxSW, but we met and hung out a little and, more importantly, Leslie sustained a prodigious presence online that was true to her offline self. Most of her fans and friends learned of her death when her annual advent calendar stopped updating in early December of 2006. Paul Ford pointed out that Leslie would have found many of the online reminiscences and tributes and obituaries that blossomed in her wake mawkish, but she inspired that sort of involvement from others. I miss her.

  • I resisted Twitter (twttr) when pzriddle invited me sometime last year. I broke down at SxSW and activated my account, unable to get my usual preferred username, xian. I took mediajunkie but realized later when discussing it with tantek (twitter username: t) that I ought to have gone for something shorter. I had looked at x, but it was taken. How about 'xi' or 'xia' asked tantek, but it was too late.

  2. 9. gd 2055: Announcements #1693 of 1694: martin corey gonna be my name (xian) Wed 28 Feb 2007 (10:55 AM) it's funny sometimes how our public postings, our projected persona, our online presence can be a better repository for our old thoughts than our personal storage devices, which seem often to be more ephemeral. gd 2055: Announcements #1694 of 1694: *%* (jewel) Wed 28 Feb 2007 (12:14 PM) Yup. Most of what I read, I'd forgotton. I've been on the Well since I was 26, and now I'm 45. Most of my adult life is chronicled here somewhere or another. Also striking how much my projected persona has changed, mostly because of the change in demographic on the Well.
