  • srinivasmurty srinivasmurty Excellent set of slides. In particular, I liked two things for young CPAs which will benefit them greatly. 1) is the potential to use XBRL as a means to conduct audits. With the potential of using the GRC taxonomy, XBRL enables auditors to get access to corporate accounting data, accounting policies, controls and other key areas in a more effective manner. Their customers will also benefit by lower costs in providing this data rather than spending days and nights preparing data for the much-dreaded audit. 2) is mobile access. This includes, as shown in the deck, the ability to view corporate financials in XBRL through a web browser. But with the increasing awareness of XBRL's semantic capabilities in the technology community, I foresee a huge influx of mash-ups, reporting, and analytical applications. Instead of creating 'fat client' applications, software companies should be able to use microformats and RSS feeds to create these mashups. With the advent of HTML5, I also foresee the creation of charts and drill-downs to facilitate advanced uses of XBRL-based data. Another area could be to mash up XBRL tags with ID3 tags in audio files. Imagine being able to search through a database of analyst calls to search for specific company executives and their statements regarding their company's performance or future growth. It sure would help an investor make a snap decision to buy or sell stocks based on this analysis. These audio tags could even take the user to the specific voice segment to actually hear exactly what was said (or alternatively, read the transcript). Further still, could be the mashup with GPS data as shown in the deck. These are exciting times and young CPAs who are far more technology savvy will surely find innovative ways to use all that data. 2 years ago
