  4. 4. Home to 1.9 million people</li></li></ul><li>Our flag<br />The flag of West Virginia consists of the Seal of the state on a white field with a blue border. The white symbolizes purity, while the blue symbolizes the Union.<br />
  5. 5. Great Seal of West Virginia<br />The Great Seal of West Virginia was designed by Joseph H. Diss Debar, a local artist. On the left is the Obverse, which is the side of the seal which is seen most often. On the right is the reverse, which is used very rarely. Featured prominently is the motto, Montani Semper Liberi, which is Latin for Mountaineers are always free.<br />
  6. 6. State Flower<br />The state flower of West Virginia is the Rhododendron, shown in the picture above. The Rhododendron can be found growing wild along many of West Virginia’s mountain ridges!<br />
  7. 7. State Bird<br />Shown here is our state bird, the Cardinal. The Cardinal is also the state bird of our mother state, Virginia!<br />
  8. 8. Governor<br />The chief executive of West Virginia is the Governor. Currently, the Governor is Earl Ray Tomblin, of Logan County. He was formerly the Lieutenant Governor and President of the Senate. <br />
