  • 2. Who am I? I am a Web Developer working on Google Maps. I work in the UX team building rapid prototypes.
  • 3. What is the goal of this talk? Learn how prototyping can improve how we design products. Learn how prototyping can improve how we communicate our designs to engineers.
  • 4. Who is involved? Stakeholders Researchers Designers Web developers Engineers
  • 5. How do we design without prototyping? Produce product requirements Design life cycle
  • 6. What is the product design life cycle?
  • 7. What problems are there? Engineering the design can take a long time. Slow feedback loop for each design iteration. Communication problems between design and engineering.
  • 8. What is rapid prototyping? Implementing partial product functionality as fast as possible. Not worrying about any production issues. It's like magic - smoke and mirrors.
  • 9. What is purpose of rapid prototyping? Exploring designs Validating designs Testing designs Communicating designs
  • 10. How can we design with prototyping? Produce product requirements. Distinguish between two life cycles: Full product design life cycle. Rapid product design life cycle. The rapid life cycle is a step inside the full life cycle.
  • 11. What is the full product life cycle?
  • 12. Why is this good? No engineering in the rapid product design life cycle. Rapid feedback loop. Better communication of design. Better communication of technical constraints. The result: Faster design process with better products
