1. 1. September 6, 2011
When you think of Africa, what are the first things you think of? Make a list. Then, complete the following sentence: “Africa is…”
2. 2. Objective:
Today you will learn what goes into making your grade
You will demonstrate you learned this by completing the exit ticket
3. 3. The Do - Now
Worth 10 % of your grade
That is a full letter grade – you can go from a B to a C very easily if you refuse to complete the Do - Now
4. 4. The Do - Now
Will be checked daily, by me
How? I will watch you and see if you are completing it
Repeated refusal to do the do now will result in a call home
The time for the do now is the first 5 minutes of class. Late? No credit
5. 5. Homework:
Make sure you have what you need for this class
What do you need? A notebook, that you must replace when full of notes, something to write with and a folder to keep papers in
6. 6. Homework:
Worth another 10 % of your grade.
Refuse to do the homework and you will drop a full letter grade
That means a B becomes a C
7. 7. Homework:
Is frequent but generally easy
You will usually have a small assignment every day
Fridays you will see the dancing frog, and that will mean no homework
8. 8. Vocabulary:
There will be a word of the day
The word will be explained and then you will write it in your notebook
Then, you will use that word in a sentence
9. 9. Notebook:
Put the current date on the top of EVERY page
Write the do now in your notebook
Write the vocabulary sentence
Take notes as needed / requested
10. 10. Notebook:
Will be checked informally on an ongoing basis
Will be checked formally at regular intervals
Notebooks count for the do now, and for class participation
Keep your notebooks in order many quizzes are open notes
11. 11. Test / Quiz / Projects
25% of your grade
Class work sometimes will count as a project
Quizzes will sometimes be homework
Each assignment will receive a point value
The % of the points you earn is your grade for this
12. 12. P.R.O.U.D.
Did the whole class demonstrate P.R.O.U.D. on a daily basis?
This will be 5% of your grade
Don’t argue with me, argue with the people causing us not to be P.R.O.U.D.
13. 13. Participation:
Will be the remaining 50% of your grade
Cutting class, sleeping, eating, talking, disrespect – all can and will impact your participation grade
14. 14. Participation:
Means you cannot claim “I do all my work” if you are not here, on time, with something to write with and something to write on, and focused on the learning!
15. 15. Class work:
There are five things that go into your grade
List them by percentage
Put the largest at the top and the smallest at the bottom
Put the percentage by the name
EXAMPLE – P.R.O.U.D 5%
16. 16. EXIT TICKET:
Will count as part of your participation
It doesn’t need to be right, it needs to be completed – why?
Because this is how I know that you get it
17. 17. Exit Ticket:
For today, your class work and exit ticket will be identical
Write the class work on a blank piece of paper and turn it in
18. 18. Class work:
There are five things that go into your grade
List them by percentage
Put the largest at the top and the smallest at the bottom
Put the percentage by the name
EXAMPLE – P.R.O.U.D 5%
