    • An outbreak of an infectious disease that affects a large population
  • 3. Are you at risk??
    • Having more than one sexual partner
    • Any type of sexual activity
    • Unprotected sex
    • Sexual partners that have been with many people or have a history of drug use
  • 4. If you get or have an STD
    • Can cause sterility
    • Children born to mothers with STD’s can contract them during birth
    • Some are incurable
      • Live with genital sores for the rest of your life
    • Some are fatal
      • AIDS
  • 5. Cause and Effect relationship
    • SEX:
      • Unplanned pregnancies
      • Complicated relationships
        • Friends?
      • STD’s
    • Easiest way to eliminate the effects is eliminate the cause
  • 6. ABSTINENCE
  • 7. Warning signs of STD’s
    • Burning during urination
    • Discharge
    • Swelling in the groin area
    • Genital warts – red-ish sores on the genitals
      • Causes by HPV (cant get rid of)
    • Herpes – blister like sores. No cure.
    • **** Symptoms are delayed in most cases
  • 8. Safe Sex
    • Safe sex can help prevent the spread of STD’s
      • Condoms
    • However… genital to genital contact can also spread many STD’s
  • 9. Responsibilities
    • If infected:
      • Get treatment
      • Notify those you have had sexual contact with
  • 10. Making Smart Decisions
    • Dating
      • Lots of people
      • Not just looks
      • Opposites attract??
      • “ The One”
      • More to relationships then the physical
      • Don’t be afraid
