  • 2. www.worldweatheronline.com The Gulf Stream The Gulf Stream is an ocean current system that is made up of the Florida current and the North Atlantic Drift.
  • 3. www.worldweatheronline.com Florida Current This thermal ocean current that forms part of the Gulf Stream is a movement of water that occurs because of water being pushed from the Atlantic Ocean into the Caribbean Sea by the Earth’s rotation, which exerts greater pressure along the equator.
  • 4. www.worldweatheronline.com North Atlantic Drift The North Atlantic Drift is the reason that the climate of the UK and Northern Europe are so mild when compared with the climates of Canada, Russia and Alaska that all lie along the same latitude.
  • 5. www.worldweatheronline.com Gulf Stream effect on other aspects of weather Though the warming effect that the Gulf Stream has is beneficial for the climates that it affects, there is a meteorological downside that comes in the form of the formation of tropical cyclones and often also increases the intensity of cyclones that occur there.
