Transcript of "Leon Courage project"

 1. 1. Presentation by Charlotte Clapham Leon’s Story By Walter Tillage
 2. 2. Courage Examples Of Leon From Leon’s Story In Chronicle Order Leon walked to school which was 4 miles away. It was dangerous, long, but he still went. Leon walked past the way the school bus came. The kids sometimes came out and beat them up, but Leon was courageous and went that way. Leon went to the movies. White kids sometimes threw things at him, and jumped him after the movie, but Leon still went to the movies which was courageous of him. Leon couldn’t drink Soda at certain places, but he still was courageous and tried to get that soda, even though he could have been hurt being seen trying to get the soda.
 3. 3. Courage Examples [continued] Leon had to hide in the woods if the Klansmen ever attacked, but Leon was courageous and never complained, but got ready and practiced hiding. Leon moved from the farm his family was sharecropping to Mr. Tompkins farm. It was courageous because it could’ve turned out terribly, they might not have made any money, but they still moved to the farm. Leon started keeping his own records of what everything cost. It was courageous to try, because it wasn’t tradition, and it used to be not really allowed. Leon still tried something new. Leon made the decision to march for rights. It was courageous because he could get really hurt, or killed. Leon tried to get past the police men and their dogs, and fire hoses. It was courageous because the dogs could bite you up, the police men could kill you, and the hoses could rip skin off you.
 4. 4. Blue Persistent Leon was very persistent because in the book, Leon wouldn’t give up marching. He’d sometimes get hurt, and it was scary, but he still kept at it and he never ever gave up. Leon shows this with actions, and a direct statement. “But we continued marching and carrying on as though it was the only thing to do, because we couldn’t turn back once we started.” Leon kept on trying, when he kept trying to get the soda he wasn’t allowed to drink, or kept going to the movies even if things were thrown at him, or if he kept marching for his rights. Leon was a very persistent person.
 5. 5. Red Courageous Leon is very courageous person the book. Leon is courageous because, first of all, he marches for his rights. Many awful things could happen to him, but he still does it instead of leaving it for others. It is really courageous what he did. Another example of when he was courageous was when he goes to school. He could get hurt by the kids on the bus, it’s a tiring, long, dangerous journey, but he still goes to school instead of skipping or taking a different route. Leon is shows many courageous actions in the book.
 6. 6. Red Determined Leon is very determined in this book. Leon tries to get the soda from the store. He was determined when doing that because he keeps trying getting sodas from there because he wasn’t allowed to have that soda so he wants it and thinks it tastes better because he isn’t allowed to have it. He’s allowed to buy the exact same soda on pushcarts but he gets them from stores he’s not allowed too.
 7. 7. Leon’s special place

If I could design Leon any place, it would be a clothing store. In the book Leon couldn’t change in the changing rooms, and could be thrown out of the store in an instant if someone tells the person working there to. This store would have changing rooms anyone could use, its clothes would be on-limits to everybody, there’d be good service, nothing unfair, and drinking fountains anybody could use. It wouldn’t matter how old you were, or what you looked like, everybody would be treated the same.

 8. 8. Leon’s award

If I could give Leon any award, I would give him the Hardworking Ribbon. He really deserves it because Leon helped out on the farm that his family was working at, and once his father died he did a lot of jobs so that he could support his family, mostly his mother. He wouldn’t really take much breaks, in one chapter he was working while the other kids [not his family] sipped lemonade. He worked hard, tried hard, even at a young age. That’s why Leon deserves this award. For me, blue represents hard work, so that is why the ribbon’s blue. I made it so plain because Leon would know right away what this ribbon stood for.

 9. 9. Leon’s Lunch Munch

Appetizers Main Course Drinks

Pippin’ Potato Salad…5.99 Northern style crispy, potato salad. Leon lived in North Carolina, and this specific recipe is from North Carolina. Unfair French Fries…2.89 These warm, thick, flavorful fries will be a delight to all who try them. They are UNFAIR fries because Leon was treated unfairly because he was black. Leon’s Perfect Pizza…8.59 This cheese pizza will please all. Leon didn’t really get the childhood he should have, so this will help help make up for being beaten, and working hard. Good Heart Hamburger…7.59 This tasty burger comes with your choice of garnishes. Leon needs to build up muscle, and stay strong when working in the fields, this burger will do that job nicely. Leon’s Forbidden Frank…5.95 Hot dog served with your choice topping. It was hard for Leon to get hot dogs because some people didn’t want to serve him. Here anyone can have a hot dog. Sweet Soda!...4.49 Bubbly, cold, yummy. Leon had to buy soda off push carts, not anymore! Chocolate Milk…2.89 This frothy, bubbly, high quality milk. This is not the type you get off pushcarts! YAAYY Leon Lemon...3.49 This cold lemonade is sweet and good. Leon was working while the other kids drank lemonade. Leon deserves some lemon
