There are no other effects knownuntil now. Specific hazards: No acute hazards or effects are known until now.4. First aid measuresSkin contact: especially with hot polymer, may cause skin irritation in some sensitivepeople resulting in redness, itching, and in extreme cases, blistering. Avoid contactwith hot polymer which may give thermal burns.Eye contact: polymer chips in the eye will cause mechanical damage includingscratching of the cornea.5. • 2. WESTMOONINT (HK) CORPORATION LIMITEDSuitable extinguishing media: Water, foam, chemical power and carbon dioxide.Unsuitable extinguishing media: None Hazardous combustion products: Carbonmonoxide, carbon dioxide, products from incomplete combustion, nitrogen oxides, acrid fumes and toxic gases. Special hazards in fire: During emergency conditionsexposure to thermal decomposition products may cause a health hazard. Use ofNIOSH approved self contained breathing apparatus is recommended. When requiredspecial protective equipment for fire-fighters: Protective clothes and gas mask.6. Accidental release measuresPersonal precautions: There is no actual hazardous of the Hypalon. The release is notapplicable. Environmental precautions: Clean the floor immediately and reuse theclean powder. Drop the dirty part to the waste treatment center. Methods for cleaning:Sweep the floor.7. Handling and storageHandling: The finished product should be packed to dry clean containers in time.Storage: Store in a cool, dry place. Storage and work areas should be monitored forcarbon tetrachloride to assure that the PEL is not exceeded.8. Exposure Controls(contact control/ individual protection)Engineering measures: No special engineering measures.Control Parameter: Two as below:People—Wear the suitable protective clothes, safety goggles and glove.Environment—Avoid to spread these products in the environment.Personal protection equipment:Eye protection: wear safety goggles.Hand protection:Wear safety glove.Hygiene measures: wash hands before eat.9. Physical and chemical propertiesAppearance: White to light cream coloredOdor: Slight ether-likeForm: Solid chips, about 1 inch longMelting point: NA% Volatiles: NASolubility in water: NegligibleSpecific gravity: 1.08-1.27 depending on type10. Stability and reactivityConditions to avoid: stable at normal temperatures and storage conditions.Materials to avoid: the decomposition temperature of the products described in theMaterial Safety Data Sheet is affected by the type of compounding ingredients usedand by the method of processing. Onset of decomposition can be as low as 150 Address: ROOM2112, BLOCK C OF JINSHA WINERA PLAZA, NO.1 SHUJIN RD, CHENGDU, 610091, SICHUAN, CHINA Tel: 86-028-61311272 Fax: 86-028-61311273 Web: www.westmoonint.com E-mail: info@westmoonint.com
  • 3. WESTMOONINT (HK) CORPORATION LIMITEDdegrees C. lowers temperatures are recommended for masterbateches containing highconcentrations of lead oxides.Decomposition: HAZARDOUS DECOMPOSTION PRODUCTS: carbontetrachloride is liberated on standing; evolution is accelerated with heat.Decomposition products include carbon monoxide, hydrogen chloride, sulfur dioxide, and hydrocarbon oxidation products including organic acids, aldehydes and alcohols.Polymerization: polymerization will not occur.Hazardous decomposition products: In combustion case, it emits toxic fumes ofcarbonic oxides and nitrogen and HCN.11. Toxicological informationAnimal DataTALCTalcOral LD50: 920 mg/kg in ratsInhalation 5 hour ALC: > 22 mg/L in rats.Long-term exposure by ingestion to Talc caused no significant decrease in life span.A single exposure by inhalation to high doses of Talc caused irregular respiration andlacrimation but no evidence of an inflammatory reaction. Repeated exposure causedno adverse effects on survival or histological changes. Long-term exposure in ratscaused chronic inflammation, impaired pulmonary function and histological changesof the lungs. One lifetime inhalation study reports an increased incidence of lung andadrenal tumors in rats exposed to Talc. The lung tumors and chronic inflammationoccurred at dust levels which overwhelmed the animals’ lung clearance mechanismand, therefore, are of questionable biological relevance for man. The adrenal tumorsare unlikely to be a direct effect of Talc exposure and are of questionable relevance. No increases in tumors were observed in mice. Talc has not caused developmentaltoxicity in animals. No animal data are available to define the reproductive toxicity ofTalc. Tests have shown that Talc does not cause genetic damage in bacterial ormammalian cell cultures, or in animals. Animal data indicate that Talc does not causepermanent genetic damage in reproductive cells of mammals (does not cause heritablegenetic damage).12. Ecological informationAvoid to spreading these products in the environment. They are not biodegradable, but they are recyclable No effects are expected if dust concentrations are maintainedbelow the Occupational Exposure Standard. No carcinogenic or geotaxis effects areknown.13. Disposal ConsiderationsReuse if possible. Dispose in accordance with local, state and federal regulations andapplicable environmental regulations. Material as supplied is not characterized ashazardous under RCRA.
