I George Town Penang Heritage, Culture And Lifestyle In Penang Malaysia - Presentation Transcript
World heritage
THE World Heritage Committee meeting in Quebec City added George Town to UNESCO’s World Heritage List on the morning of 7 July 2008. George Town's built heritage comprises architectural traditions adapted to local conditions from both East and West. Its historic core has the largest concentration of pre-World War II architecture in Southeast Asia.
Over the last 222 years, a unique way of life based upon East-West exchanges has developed here. The influences of Asia and Europe have endowed the city with a specific multicultural heritage. We provide here information on various attractions in the George Town World Heritage Site (WHS), drawing a lot on information already published on the Internet
The WHS is divided into four sections: Section 1: Colonial Quarter Section 2: Waterfront Section 3: Places of Worship and Clan Enclave Section 4: The Commercial District
