  • (Slide version 2) Createwordle from tweets here.Here's a summary of my Wordle experience ("Wordle Whoops!" "Wordle:  What the… ?" "Wordle… (anguished tone, shaking fist) WHY??" ).  Feel free to pretty it up, scrap it, whatever works.  Or ask me to condense it into slides. I had some extra time with Bridge students, and decided that I would try a Wordle activity in lieu of a formal library tour.  So I gave students notecards, and sent them to different floors/areas of the library to write down at least 5 things they saw in the area.  My thought was that some of the "important" things in the library would jump out in the Wordles because they'd be typed more than once, and that this would also give students the opportunity to tell their classmates what they saw in the library.  And it would be a cool visual reinforcement of what they discovered while exploring the library.   I had the first group of students (who had gone to the same area) start typing what they observed into Wordle.  Then I think (at least I hope) I explained that they were typing words into a word cloud, and that the items typed the most would stand out.  When I pulled up the Wordle you could hear the crickets chirping and see the tumbleweed blowing by.   Actually, I think the crickets may have been asleep.  By the 3rd group, I scrapped using Wordle entirely and just turned the activity into a discussion.  Nobody even seemed to notice. Where did I go wrong?  In hindsight, I think my lack of planning and "I have extra time, what can I do with Wordle?" shows.  I think that students may have responded better had I asked them to create their own Wordles on their own computers.  They could've played around with the program, then still shared what they learned with the class.  And having created their own Wordles, maybe students would've been more inclined to see what others had created.   I think I also should have showed them how Wordle works ahead of time, instead of pulling it up and expecting them to be wowed.  As it was, they were just typing in words without a feel for what they were contributing to.  Or it's possible that this group of students weren't enthusiastically visual learners.  Or that it was summer, the middle of the day, and they were over it :) I hope this helps!   Jessica TrinoskeyBusiness LibrarianIUPUI University Library755 W.
