  2. 2. Arabic wall and Alcazar <ul><li>The Emir of Cordoba arrived in Madrid in the year 865 and decided to build and rule over the Alcazar and the Arab wall, next to a creek that would lead to the Manzanares River </li></ul>
  3. 3. Location <ul><li>They are Arabs and Christians who lived in the capital during the Middle Ages. </li></ul><ul><li>It was located in the Cuesta de la Vega, Plaza de Carros, Cava Baja, San Miguel and the current street. </li></ul><ul><li>Some important streets are Plaza del Alamillo, la Costillana de San Andrés y la Plaza de la Paja. </li></ul>
  4. 4. Why it was built? <ul><li>It was built by the emir of Cordoba to alert with fire signals from the incursions of Christians from the north of the peninsula, and this protect the city of Toledo. </li></ul>
  5. 5. Description of the neighborhood <ul><li>By tearing down the palace of Malpica they found remains of the Arab wall, there are made of misses and adobe silex, has cordobes towers and rigging. </li></ul>

IMPORTANT PLACES <ul><li>Plaza del Alamillo: where is located the court of law of the Arabs </li></ul><ul><li>Costillana de San Andres: where there is the prospect of Torre de San Pedro el Viejo and Plaza de la Paja. </li></ul><ul><li>La Plaza de la Paja: where tithes were deposited straw to feed the horses of the Chapel. </li></ul>
  7. 7. Before the Arabs and Christian kingdom <ul><li>For years the Alcazar and Arabic wall served as a border wall between Arab and Christian kingdoms. </li></ul><ul><li>In 1038 the army of the Christian king Alfonso VI the Conqueror seized control of the city </li></ul>

Church of San Nicolás de los Servitas <ul><li>Around this church the population increase. </li></ul><ul><li>Formerly it was a mosque, which later became a Christian church. </li></ul><ul><li>In the church welcomes the deceased Juan de Herrera, architect of the Escorial Monastery. </li></ul><ul><li>It also hosted the Napoleonic troops </li></ul>
  9. 9. Church and door of Santa Maria <ul><li>It was one of the entrances to the Arabic wall. </li></ul><ul><li>It was demolished because it prevented the passage of vehicles on the “calle mayor” </li></ul><ul><li>All Christians in the world worship a figure of the Virgin </li></ul>
