JAMES MUHAMMAD PRESIDENT AND CEO
MERRILLVILLE, IN – James Muhammad, the Peabody Award-winning Director of
Radio Services for West Virginia Public Broadcasting, will become President and CEO
of Lakeshore Public Media, the umbrella organization for Lakeshore Public Television
and 89.1 FM, The Lakeshore, Board of Directors Chair Dr. Bonita Neff announced today.
“James is a well-rounded leader with experience in public media, programming and
community outreach,” Neff said. “For more than a decade, he built a team that worked
collaboratively on radio and television projects, and engaged the community and its
leaders. That’s why our board unanimously chose him.”
“I’m excited to join Lakeshore, especially as the television station celebrates 25 years of
community service,” Muhammad said. “This is a great opportunity to work with a public
media organization and its unique operation as a joint licensee in the Chicago media
market. I’m also thrilled to work with Lakeshore’s great staff and committed partners.”
Over the past 25 years, the station has progressed from a one-person show, at times, to
today’s expanded services such as a full-time newscast with Lakeshore News Tonight,

well as a joint license with NPR affiliate station 89.1 FM, The Lakeshore.
Muhammad, whose career in public broadcasting spans nearly two decades, will join
Lakeshore officially on May 20. Supporters and community members wanting to meet
this award-winning director will have a chance at an earlier date—the station’s 25th
Anniversary Celebration on May 16.
“We encourage our community members to come out and welcome our newest team
member,” said Neff. The 25th Anniversary Celebration not only offers attendees an
exclusive opportunity to meet James Muhammad, but to also reminisce about the
