  • Welcome Aboard Flight 1453: Air Math
On this flight we will be learning about Ratios, Rates, and Proportions
  • First lesson: To determine the speed to take off I would need to find the ratio of the plane’s weight: lift and thrust: drag .
  • Lift off!!!!
  • Our second lesson on your flight is the rate.
We will be flying a rate of 7.32 miles per minute.
And we will be traveling a distance of approximately 4360 miles away.
  • The total travel time will be approximately 596 minutes.
If we compute a unit analyses by doing a conversion of 60 min=1 hr we will arrive in 9 hrs and 56 mins.
  • Thus, the plane will be flying the unit rate of 455 miles per hour.
  • Thus, our last lesson is our proportion.
Our plane is a 767-300 meaning the proportion of the plane is slightly larger than 767-200. As you can see
    With the 767-200 this gives us a proportion ratio of A:B:C = 190:200:181.With the 767-300 we get a proportion ratio of A:B:C = 221:200:217.
  • Thank you for flying Air Math. I hope you enjoy your flight.
