What does this source tells you why the Adnan bin saidi and the Malay regiment had a fierce fight against the Japanese? This picture of the Men of the Malay Regiment, recruited from local native volunteers, at bayonet practice on Singapore Island, October 1941. Source Based Question 1

Answer:

From the picture, we can infer that the soldiers of the Malay Regiment are mainly made up of volunteers. I know this as the caption under the picture said that “the Men of the Malay Regiment, recruited from local native volunteers were recruited from local native volunteers.” This tells me that the regiment is strong as the men that forms up the regiment were volunteers as they want to protect their own country. This explains why the Malay Regiment had a fierce battle against the Japanese at Bukit Chandu and refuses to give up till the very end.

Also, the picture shows the soldiers from Malay regiment practicing . This shows that the soldiers are keen to defend their own country .We can also see that the Soldiers of the Malay regiment are very united and have a strong team spirit. We know this as the picture show them practicing TOGETHER.

Source-based question 2: Tan Sri Dato’ Mubin Sheppard, an ex-officer and former POW, says of his friend the late Lieutenant Adnan: “ He was heavily outnumbered by the Japanese…they bombed him but he fought on fiercely and inflicted heavy losses on them….
