  2. 2. What is an E-Portfolio? <ul><li>An e-portfolio is a personalized web based collection that any person can use to publish their course work, personal information and anything else that interests them. </li></ul>

Why Create an E-Portfolio? <ul><li>By creating an E-portfolio students can: </li></ul><ul><ul><li>Share examples of their work with advisors, faculty, mentors and potential employers </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>Learn very valuable information technology skills </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>Demonstrate knowledge, skills and attributes gained outside the classroom </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>Show off what they know, what they can do and what they value </li></ul></ul>

Web Space <ul><li>What is web space? </li></ul><ul><ul><li>It is the space where you can store all the files from your text, images and e-mail </li></ul></ul><ul><li>How much space is provided? </li></ul><ul><ul><li>Penn State provides 500 megabytes of storage at no initial cost to students and faculty </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>Additional space is $0.12 per megabyte per year </li></ul></ul><ul><li>Purpose: in order to create an e-portfolio a student must first apply for web space </li></ul><ul><ul><li>Individuals can apply by filling out an application form at www.psu.edu/webspace </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>Student organizations can apply for web space through www.clubs.psu.edu </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>After applying for web space in may take up to 3 days for the application to be processed </li></ul></ul>

Web Page Development Tools <ul><li>FrontPage </li></ul><ul><ul><li>Microsoft FrontPage is an HTML editor and a website administration tool for Microsoft windows’ operating system. </li></ul></ul><ul><li>Our group chose to use FrontPage as our e-portfolio editor. </li></ul><ul><li>Example Group E-Portfolio </li></ul><ul><li>DreamWeaver </li></ul><ul><ul><li>DreamWeaver is a web development tool enabling users to efficiently design, develop and maintain standard-based websites and applications </li></ul></ul>

Portal <ul><li>A personalized view and internet resource for Penn State University. </li></ul><ul><li>The portal contains: </li></ul><ul><ul><li>A calendar, The Digital Collegian, e-mail, student services, alerts, PASS (Penn State Access Account Storage Space), web cams, search engines for people and the internet, weather channel and numerous others. </li></ul></ul>
  7. 7. PASS (Penn State Access Account Storage Space) <ul><li>File transfer program that’s found on portal </li></ul><ul><li>Similar to SSH </li></ul><ul><li>Can be accessed anywhere </li></ul>
  8. 8. Qualities of a Good Website <ul><li>Make sure information is clearly presented </li></ul><ul><li>Simple to maintain </li></ul><ul><li>User friendly </li></ul><ul><li>Keep it simple (design for slower machines) </li></ul>
