      • Policies are made up of a combination of laws, education, outreach and incentives that all work together
      • Policy making is a transparent process
        • Stakeholder and Expert Advisory Committees advise government
        • Government provides proposals for public input
          • Environmental Registry – required public consultation
        • Government revises and finalizes policy
    3. How Standards Are Set
      • Sound and recent science used to establish levels that will protect Human and Ecological Health
      • Consultation before decisions.

        • Industry, environmental groups, other governments and First Nations
      • Final decision (new/updated law, regulation, or policy)
    4. Enforcement and Compliance
      • Strong compliance and enforcement mean high levels of environmental protection
      • Fairness for those who do comply with Ontario’s environmental laws
      • Enforce terms and conditions
      • Risk based inspections by almost 400 Environmental Inspectors across the province
      • Investigate, prosecute when needed
    5. Education, Outreach And Incentives
      • New laws complemented by education and outreach, as well as incentives
      • Workshops, website portals and educational material
      • Incentive programs - deposit-return, funding partnerships and environmental leaders
