      • An Entrepreneur :
      • one who undertakes
      • A Social Entrepreneur :
      • Recognizes a social problem and uses entrepreneurial principles to organize, create, and manage a venture to make social change
      • Key Distinctions :
      • Business entrepreneur = profit and return & for profit structure
      • Social entrepreneur = impact, profit & return & legal structure
    4. What can MaRS do to help you …?
      • We can’t create entrepreneurs – that desire is something that has to come from you.
      • What we can do is to help give you the tools that will help you harness and direct your entrepreneurial drive.

    6. Course Philosophy
      • The course will follow a logical path through various topics relevant to starting a business
      • The course is aimed at two groups:
      • *science / engineering / medical researchers either in a university or hospital lab or in the private sector
      • *social entrepreneurs
      • The course will be of much greater value if you have a business/social case ( idea?) in mind

      • MaRS is not a degree granting institution – BUT in previous years we have had numerous requests for Certificates of Participation
      • This year we will offer certificates to those who have attended at least 21 of the 28 lectures
      • You will have to register your attendance – either sign the attendance sheet in person at the lecture, or online by viewing the posted lecture and commenting on the video, signed with your name.
