    • Weekly News from WCUMC-3/10/2013Sharing the transforming love of Jesus, across the street and around the world."Loving and Submitting to One Another Out of Respect for Christ" Basic Training for Followers of Christ. . . submit to each other out of respect for Christ. For example, wivesshould submit to their husbands as if to the Lord. A husband is thehead of his wife like Christ is head of the church, that is,the savior ofthe body . . . As for husbands, love your wives just like Christ loved thechurch and gave himself for her. . . Marriage is a significant allegory, and Im applying it to Christ and the church. In any case, as for youindividually, each one of you should love his wife as himself and wivesshould respect their husbands. Ephesians 5:21-33For some, these verses can be seen as controversial, but they arentmeant to be. At the very core of our human relationships must be asubmission to one another out of love and respect for Christ.Submission to others must start with our marriages. Wives, submit yourselves to your husbands 1. As if to the Lordship of Christ. (v. 22) 2. To the headship of the man in Christ.(v. 23) Husbands, love your wives as Christ loved the Church and gave Himself for her. A husbands love for his wife must be 1. Sacrificial (v. 25)
    • 2. Sanctifying (vs. 26-27) 3. Satisfying (vs. 28-31)Submission to others must continue with respect for our parents, children, and work relationships As for children, obey your parents in the Lord, because it is right. The commandment Honor your father and mother is the first one with apromise attached: so that things will go well for you, and you will livefor a long time in the land. As for parents, dont provoke your childrento anger, but raise them with discipline and instruction about the Lord.As for slaves [employees], obey your human masters [employers] withfear and trembling and with sincere devotion to Christ. Dont work tomake yourself look good and try to flatter people, but act like slaves ofChrist carrying out Gods will from the heart . . . As for masters[employers], treat your slaves [employees] in the same way. Stopthreatening them, because you know that both you and your slaves havea master in heaven. He doesnt distinguish between people on the basisof status. Ephesians 6:1-9We all have a master in heaven.Next Week: “Putting on the Armor of God", Ephesians 6:10-20Pastor Rick Vinther preaching THIS WEEK AT WCUMCSunday - 3/10 Evening Prayer, 5:30 PM, Prayer RoomMonday - 3/11 "The WORD" Bible Study, 2:00 PM, Memorial Room.
