  1. 1. Weekly News from WCUMC-3/16/2014 9 Teachings from the Cross. A Sermon Series for Lent. “Salvation... Eternal life with God” Luke 23:39-43 One of the criminals hanging next to Jesus insulted him, "Aren't you the Christ? Save yourself and us!" Responding, the other criminal spoke harshly to him, "Don't you fear God, seeing that you've also been sentenced to die? We are rightly condemned, for we are receiving the appropriate sentence for what we did. But this man has done nothing wrong." Then he said, "Jesus, remember me when you come into your kingdom." Jesus replied, "I assure you that today you will be with me in paradise." The criminal who repented and asked to be with Jesus in His kingdom… is with Him right now! In John 3:1-21, Nicodemus asked Jesus what it meant to be born anew… (or born again) Salvation does not come through human effort. It comes only through the power of the Holy Spirit. … unless someone is born anew, it's not possible to see God's kingdom… Whatever is born of the flesh is flesh, and whatever is born of the Spirit is spirit. IT ALL STARTS WITH GOD AND HIS LOVE! "For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son… Kingdom Living is initiated by God’s love … and followed by our faith
  2. 2. in what He did for us; so that everyone who believes in him will have eternal life. God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him won't perish but will have eternal life. Living by the truth gives evidence that all we do is done through the power of God Whoever does the truth comes to the light so that it can be seen that their actions were done in God." __________________________________________________________ Questions for Personal or Group Reflection 1. Explain… 5. Describe how you began to see God as saving you, rather than condemning you. (John 3:17) 6. How would you describe your “new life in Christ” to others? 7.
