  • Slide 1: Hook/attention grabber
I promise I am not here to scare you. But as time goes on, it seems that our world needs to make some changes. Including our food. I’m not the food police nor am I hear to yell and tell you, you are a bad eater. I’m not perfect, I don’t always eat the best things for me. I am simply here to tell you that change needs to be made in hopes for a better tomorrow for us and our young. Change doesn’t have to be scary, in fact change can be good. Change doesn’t have to be difficult either. It actually can be as easy as peeling an orange.
  • Slide 2: Hook/attention grabber
Notice any of these? Maybe you do, maybe you don’t. But even if you notice the name, I bet you don’t actually know what it is. These 5 ingredients are COMMONLY used in our foods. Little do we know what they actually mean. One of them you might be able to guess, “Sodium Chloride”. Technically it’s “salt” but when studied and observed you’ll find out that there is not one trace of anything real in it, not even salt.
  • Slide 3: The Big Idea (pages 78-79)
We have every right to know what we put into our bodies. Food should be made for us to survive and enjoy simple pleasures. The Oreo itself is not evil, the way it’s made is.  Either beneficial or junk food, food should be food not chemicals.  People should be aware of just what we are REALLY eating.
  • Slide 4: What’s in it for your audience? Explain why your topic is important or worth discussing.
Eating “organic” can have a bad rep. Many feel it’s just used as a business strategy to increase prices but less processed foods are proven to contain at least 50% more vitamins and nutrients than processed foods. Eating these can cut down health risks including cancer. Besides helping our bodies, we are helping our environment and our economy by Supporting local farms and farmers. We are also setting a good example for our children. Our children shouldn’t fall into society's awful habits. It’s our job as parents and teachers to teach our children how to eat properly and teaching ourselves a few new tricks won’t hurt.
  • Slide 5: Why should your audience listen to you? Explain your ethos (personal experience, expertise, and credibility).
At almost weighing in at 300 pounds, I had to learn the hard way about food. While I’m not saying, don’t eat, I’m saying that food choices are critical. I recall coming home everyday from school and downing a pack of cookies as a meal. Even though my food choices were poor there was more deeper problems than that. Such as corn syrups, white flour, and gelatin. 3 ingredients that took much more of a toll on my body then the weight. While I can still run into my old poor eating habits, I can say that 80-90% of my diet is pretty clean. While I would like to improve that, every day is a new beginning and Rome wasn’t built in a day. These sugars and salts work kind of similar to a drug and it takes time for your body to officially totally detox them. My blood pressure was borderline and I was on track to getting diabetes, today I can say my blood pressure is fine and diabetes is no where in my lane and I’m also 130 pounds lighter. . I know the journey is tuff and that’s why getting everyone on board can help us as a whole
  • Slide 6: Call to Adventure (pages 38-39)
We don’t have to fear what we put in our mouths. We can enjoy a clean, lean, green happy life while still fitting into our budgets and everyday lifestyles. Forgot the myths, it doesn’t need to be hard. The only thing that needs to change is the grocery list and our mindsets. We need to show the negativity the door and bring in positive thoughts. Don’t worry about your schedules, nothing is changing except for our food choices. One clean day can turn into a lifetime of happiness and healthiness
  • Slide 7: Preview the three main points that will support your big idea
Certain ingredients that have been put into our foods have been proven to show signs of health risks, including cancer. That’s a lot deeper than not being able to fit in your jeans. There is more than one article on the web that shows ingredients that are BANNED around the world yet allowed here in America. Banned as in, no human should be eating it. Eating organic has way more than just one beneficial factor. It honestly can change your life in whole.
  • Slide 8: Introduce and set up Supporting Point One
Before when I showed you these ingredients, you may have recognized some from your favorite products. But these ingredients can be viewed as deadly. These ingredients are commonly used and they are even put into foods that you would think wouldn’t contain them. Whether or not they are used for freshness or taste, the long term effects of these ingredients can affect our bodies.
  • Slide 9: Factual or emotional evidence
Acesulfame-K, also known as acesulfame potassium, can be found in many common soft drinks. Even though it’s approved by the FDA, studies with rats have shown this ingredient to cause benign thyroid tumors. Many studies have been done proven it’s safety but over time and a build up this ingredient can cause damage. Aspartame only weighs in around 4 calories per serving but can be over 200 times sweeter than sugar. Commonly found in sweeteners such as NutraSweet and equal, this stuff is a multi-potential carcinogen, even consumed daily at 20 milligrams per kilogram of body weight. That is a lower quantity than the maximum recommended by the FDA.
  • Slide 10: Factual or emotional evidence
BHA & BHT are used to preserve common household foods. Any processed food that has a long shelf life is often filled with BHA. They are oxidants, which form potentially cancer-causing reactive compounds in your body. Propyl Gallate which is often used with BHA can be found in meat products, chicken soup base, and chewing gums. Which can be linked to cancer as well. Sodium Chloride or more commonly known as “table salt” actually contains no traditional rock or sea salt. Sodium Chloride has often been called “the bad stuff” and many doctors recommend you stay away from it.
  • Slide 11: Introduce and set up Supporting Point Two
Now those are just the tip of the iceberg. If you thought those health risks were bad wait till you hear these ones. There are actual ingredients in America that have been banned in other countries! Meaning that no human should be eating food with these harmful chemicals in them. It’s one thing to go research an ingredient but finding out the ingredient is actual banned elsewhere is a scary thought. The overall health of Americans is so much lower than other industrialized countries, our toxic foods might play a role in our skyrocketing disease rates.
  • Slide 12: Factual or emotional evidence
Olestra a.k.a Olean is a calorie- and cholesterol-free fat substitute used in fat-free snacks like chips and French fries. It has been named one of the worst 50 inventions ever by time magazine, but that hasn’t stopped food companies from using it to satisfy people’s mistaken belief that a fat-free snack is a healthier snack. In a 2011 rats fed potato chips made with Olean gained weight, there have been several reports of adverse intestinal reactions to the fake fat including diarrhea, cramps and leaky bowels. Pretty gross. This substance also drains out vitamins A,D,K, & E right out of the food. The FDA requires these vitamins to be put back in to be sold in the U.S
  • Slide 13: Factual or emotional evidence
Unfortunately, this ingredient is extremely common. Almost every time you eat a slice of bread from a restaurant, hamburger bun, or hotdog bun you a more than likely consuming potassium bromate. Bromated flour is “enriched” and its used to make the dough more elastic and better able to stand up to bread hooks. However, Pepperidge Farm and other successful companies don’t use this type of flour and have none of these so-called “structural problems.” Studies have linked potassium bromate to kidney and nervous system damage, gastrointestinal discomfort, and cancer.
  • Slide 14: Introduce and set up Supporting Point Three
Now like I said earlier, have no fear! We don’t have to fall under these spells of eating clean is hard. While the change may be a tad hard to get used to, the green side is the best way to go for many reasons. Including weight, sleep patterns, skin & hair care, and most of all happiness! So many things today in our society are causing disease, illnesses, and ailments. Organic foods are your best defense! They are also the only things you can really trust. Unpackaged foods such a fruits, veggies and raw grains are the best absolute way to know what you are putting into your bodies. Knowing this will only help the journey easier!
  • Slide 15: Factual or emotional evidence
There are no chemicals in the food and the has a much more wholesome taste than food heavily These organic foods can help you build strength and increase your energy. It also gives you the proper vitamins and nutrients to help fight viruses and disease. Food that has been chemically altered in any way has far less nutritional value and therefore is not as healthy for your body. Organic foods also naturally contain less fat and more of healthy fats and oils which can help in the weight department.
  • Slide 16: Factual or emotional evidence
Organic foods don’t touch any Heavy metals like Cadmium, Lead and Mercury. These metals have been proven to damage nerve functions and block hemoglobin production which leads to anemia. The same metals are also linked to a lower IQ and disease such as multiple sclerosis. Luckily with Orgain food you don’t need to worry about those awful metals. Organic foods can also help your allergies. Some of your allergies are brought directly on by chemicals in processed foods. Organic foods can help lower your allergy symptoms. Organic foods also help our environment and our local farmers which is always a nice side affect.
  • Slide 17: Call to Action (pages 42-43)
It’s time for us to fight back! It’s time we take a stand and start living life the right way. Our world is a beautiful place and has many great things to offer, it’s a good clean feeling helping the world we live in. Fruits & vegetables are the worlds greatest gift, Good taste and good for the heart and soul. While junk and comfort food are just as important to the soul, they don’t have to be deadly. Unhealthy is okay once and a while, we are humans but deadly is much different. As a whole we can fight back and show the upper hand that we deserve good wholesome food. It’s one big chain reaction, one thing leads to another and before you know it we live in a clean green world. These small steps can help lead to progression, we should be living off what our earth has to give us. Organic foods are not lame, they are not boring, it is food and you’re the chef in the kitchen of life.

  • Slide 19: Restate big idea
We have every right to know what we put into our bodies. Food should be made for us to survive and enjoy simple pleasures. Many things in life are not handed to us, that’s something we all know. So it’s not a bad thing to go out there in the world and fight for the things we believe in. We can make the change and be successful at it.
  • Slide 20: Clincher/new bliss (page 44)
I would of never thought in a million years I would have been able to lose 10 pounds but our minds and bodies are a lot stronger than we think. We have the power to make the change we just have to do it and accept the challenges that might come a long the way. Keep your schedules the way they always were but next time switch from that bag of potato chips to a handful of almonds, or instead of that pop tart try oatmeal and an apple, just so you can see and feel how one change can make a big difference. I guarantee you your body will be thanking you. We’re not alone on this journey we are all trying to survive and live life at the same time.
