Joshua 24:1-281 Joshua assembled all the tribes ofIsrael at Shechem and summonedIsraels elders, leaders, judges, andofficers, and they presented themselvesbefore God.2 Joshua said to all the people, "This iswhat the LORD, the God of Israel, says:Long ago your ancestors, includingTerah, the father of Abraham and Nahor,lived beyond the Euphrates River andworshiped other gods.
Joshua 24:1-283 But I took your father Abraham fromthe region beyond the Euphrates River,led him throughout the land of Canaan,and multiplied his descendants. I gavehim Isaac,4 and to Isaac I gave Jacob and Esau. Igave the hill country of Seir to Esau as apossession, but Jacob and his sons wentdown to Egypt.
Joshua 24:1-285 " Then I sent Moses and Aaron, Iplagued Egypt by what I did there, andafterwards I brought you out.6 When I brought your fathers out ofEgypt and you reached the Red Sea, theEgyptians pursued your fathers withchariots and horsemen as far as the sea.
Joshua 24:1-287 Your fathers cried out to the LORD, so Heput darkness between you and theEgyptians, and brought the sea over them,engulfing them. Your own eyes saw what Idid to Egypt. After that, you lived in thewilderness a long time.8 " Later, I brought you to the land of theAmorites who lived beyond the Jordan. Theyfought against you, but I handed them overto you. You possessed their land, and Iannihilated them before you.

Joshua 24:1-2811 " You then crossed the Jordan andcame to Jericho. The people of Jericho—as well as the Amorites, Perizzites,Canaanites, Hittites, Girgashites, Hivites,and Jebusites—fought against you, but Ihanded them over to you.12 I sent the hornet ahead of you, and itdrove out the two Amorite kings beforeyou. It was not by your sword or bow.
Joshua 24:1-2813 I gave you a land you did not labor for,and cities you did not build, though youlive in them; you are eating fromvineyards and olive groves you did notplant. 14 "Therefore, fear the LORD and worshipHim in sincerity and truth. Get rid of thegods your ancestors worshiped beyondthe Euphrates River and in Egypt, andworship the LORD.
Joshua 24:1-2815But if it doesnt please you to worshipthe LORD, choose for yourselves today theone you will worship: the gods yourfathers worshiped beyond the EuphratesRiver, or the gods of the Amorites inwhose land you are living. As for me andmy family, we will worship the LORD."
Joshua 24:1-28 16 The people replied, "We will certainlynot abandon the LORD to worship othergods!17 For the LORD our God brought us andour fathers out of the land of Egypt, theplace of slavery and performed thesegreat signs before our eyes. He alsoprotected us all along the way we wentand among all the peoples whose landswe traveled through.
Joshua 24:1-2818 The LORD drove out before us all thepeoples, including the Amorites who livedin the land. We too will worship the LORD,because He is our God."19 But Joshua told the people, "You willnot be able to worship the LORD, becauseHe is a holy God. He is a jealous God; Hewill not remove your transgressions andsins.
Joshua 24:1-2820 If you abandon the LORD and worshipforeign gods, He will turn against [you],harm you, and completely destroy you,after He has been good to you."21 "No!" the people answered Joshua. "Wewill worship the LORD."
Joshua 24:1-2822 Joshua then told the people, "You arewitnesses against yourselves that youyourselves have chosen to worship theLORD." "We are witnesses," they said.23 "Then get rid of the foreign gods thatare among you and offer your hearts tothe LORD, the God of Israel."24 So the people said to Joshua, "We willworship the LORD our God and obeyHim."
Joshua 24:1-2825 On that day Joshua made a covenant forthe people at Shechem and established astatute and ordinance for them.26 Joshua recorded these things in thebook of the law of God; he also took alarge stone and set it up there under theoak next to the sanctuary of the LORD.
Joshua 24:1-2827And Joshua said to all the people, "Yousee this stone—it will be a witness againstus, for it has heard all the words the LORDsaid to us, and it will be a witness againstyou, so that you will not deny your God."28Then Joshua sent the people away, eachto his own inheritance.
