God is Great God is Great Presentation Transcript

  • POWERS OF 10 M Z OO FROM MICRO TO MACRO COSMOS.
  • This is a trip at high speed, jumping distances by a factor of 10.We’ll start with 100 (equivalent to 1 meter), and will increasethe size by a factor of 10, or 101 (10 meters), 102 (10x10 = 100 meters, 103 (10x10x10 = 1,000 meters), 104 (10x10x10x10 = 10,000 meters), so on, until we reach the limit of our imagination in the direction of the macro cosmos. Later we’ll return, a little faster, back to the point where westarted & continue our trip in the opposite direction reducing distances of travel by factors of 10 into the micro cosmos. We will observe the constancy of the laws of the universe and think about how much the human race still needs to learn...
  • BON VOYAGE!
  • 10 01 meterDistanceto a bunchof leavesin thegarden
  • 10 110 metersStarting our tripupwards ....We can see thefoliage.
  • 10 2100 metersAt this distancewe can see thelimits of theforest and theedifications
  • 10 3 1 kmWe will passfrom meters tokilometers..Now it ispossible tojump with aparachute ...
  • 10 4 10 kmThe city couldbe observedbut we reallycan’t see thehouses
  • 10 5 100 kmAt this height,the state ofFlórida - USA,is just cominginto view ...
  • 10 61,000 kmTypical sightfrom a satellite
  • 10 7 10,000 kmThe northernhemisphere ofEarth, and part ofSouth America
  • 10 8100,000 kmThe Earthstartslookingsmall...
  • 10 9 1 Millión kmThe Earthand theMoon’s órbitin white....
  • 10 10 10 Million kmPart of theEarth’s Orbitin blue
  • 10 11 100 Million kmÓrbits of:Venus andEarth...
  • 10 12 1 Billión kmÓrbits of:Mercury,Venus, Earth,Mars andJúpiter.
  • 10 13 10 Billion kmAt this heightof our trip, wecouldobserve theSolar Systemand the orbitsof the planets
  • 10 14 100 Billion kmThe SolarSystem startslooking small...
  • 10 15 1 Trillión kmThe Sun now isa small star inthe middle ofthousands ofstars...
  • 10 16 1 light-yearAt one light-yearthe little Sun staris very small
  • 10 17 10 light-yearsHere we will seenothing in theinfinity....
  • 10 18100 light-years“Nothing”Only stars andNebulae...
  • 10 191,000 light-yearsAt this distancewe aretravelling in theVia-Láctea(Milky Way),our galaxy.
  • 10 2010,000 light-yearsWe continue ourtravel inside theVia-Láctea(Milky Way)
  • 10 21 100,000 light-yearsWe beginreaching theperiphery ofthe Via-Láctea(Milky Way)
  • 10 22 1 Millión light-yearsAt thistremendousdistance we cansee the entireVia-Láctea(Milky Way) &other galáxiesas well ...
  • 10 - 10 Million light-years 23From this distance, all the galaxieslook small with immense emptyspaces in between. The same laws are ruling all bodiesof the Universe. We could continue travelingupwards with our imagination, butnow let’s return home quickly

  • 10 4Questions that come tomind ...Who are we?Where are we going?Where did we comefrom?
  • 10 3Or... What do werepresent in theUniverse?
  • 10 2In this trip“upwards” we wentto the power of 23 of10
  • 10 1Now we are going todig inside of matterin a reverse (inverse)trip...
  • 10 0We arrive at our startingpoint. We could touch it with ourhands ...
  • 10 -110 CentímetersGetting closerat 10 cm ...Wecan delineatethe leaves.
  • 10 -21 CentímeterAt this distanceit is possible toobserve thestructureof the leaf.
  • 10 -31 Millímeter The cellular structures begin to show...
  • 10 -4100 micronsThe cellscan bedelineated.You can seethe unionbetweenthem.
  • 10 -510 micronsStarting ourtrip insidethe cell ...
  • 10 -6 1 micrónThe nucleusof the cell isvisible.
  • 10 -7 100NanometersAgain we changedthe measuring unitto adapt to theminiscule size. You can see thechromosomes.
  • 10 -810 NanometersIn this microuniverse theDNA chain isvisible.
  • 10 -9 1 Nanometer...thechromosómeblocks can beobserved.
  • 10 -101 Angstrom It appears like clouds of electrons... These are carbon átoms that formed our world. You should notice the resemblance of the micro cosmos with the macro cosmos ...
  • 10 -1110 Picometers In this miniature world we could observe the electrons orbiting the atoms.
  • 10 -121 PicómeterAn immense empty spacebetween the nucleus andthe electron orbits...
  • 10 -13100 FemtómetersAt this incredible andminuscule size wecould observe thenucleus of the atom.
  • 10 -1410 FemtómetersNow we couldobserve the nucleusof the carbon atom
  • 10 -151 FemtómeterHere we are in the fieldof the scientificimagination, face toface with a proton.
  • 10 -16100 AttómetersExamine the ‘quark’partículesThere is nowherefurther to go...We are at the limits ofcurrent scientificknowledge .This is the limit ofmatter...
  • And now ...Are you the center of the universe? Are you the special creature of the Creatión?What is behind the limits? Are there any limits?Note that going downwards we could only go to the powerof minus 16ª of 10 to reach the (known?) limits of matter...But upwards we went to the power of 23ª of 10 andstopped... But we could have continued our trip subjectonly to the limits to our imagination!!!!... then?... Who says that we are alone in the universe?
