Class Michael Prieditis, center, brigade information operations noncommissioned officer-in-charge, HHT, 2nd STB, 2nd ABCT, instructs senior leaders of the “Warhorse” Brigade on basic combatives moves as part of Warhorse Academy on Camp Buehring, Kuwait, Dec. 4. Warhorse Academy is a nine-day course designed to increase senior leader’s knowledge on topics such as combatives, resiliency and physical readiness training. Senior leaders back to school Story and photos by Staff Sgt. Andrew Porch 2nd ABCT PAO, 4th Inf. Div. C AMP BUEHRING, Kuwait – A true leader never stops learning and ensuring he is up-to-date on the latest regulations and training. For senior leaders of 2ndABCT, 4th Inf. Div., the opportunity is right in front of them and they are taking full advantage during the “Warhorse” Academy, on Camp Buehring, Kuwait, Dec. 1-10. The nine-day course, aimed at increasing senior leader’s knowledge in subjects such as physical readiness training and combatives allows participants a chance to take a break from their daily work schedules and focus on growing as a leader. “With a better understanding of the subjects that were taught to our senior leaders at the Warhorse Academy, it will directly benefit our junior leaders and Soldiers throughout the brigade’s formations,” said 1st. Lt. John Jeffries, HHC, 1st Bn., 67th Armor, Reg., 2nd ABCT. The leaders also learned about Army programs both new and old. “What I took away from the course was a better understanding of the material that we as leaders need to bring back to our formations and teach out junior leaders and Soldiers,” said Jeffries. “Having a better understanding on the important subjects that we were taught such as suicide See COMPETITION, Page 4

C AMP BUEHRING, Kuwait – “We are out here for you guys,” said Alaina Blair, country music star. “You guys put your lives on the line everyday for us, so it is the least we can do. I’m excited to entertain you guys!” Blair, and members of her band, visited Soldiers of 1st Bn., 67th Armor Reg., to learn about the “Death Dealers” equipment, sign some autographs and simply get to know the Soldiers. “It was nice for her to be able to take the time and raise the morale,” said Spc. Tim Ingoldsby, armor crewman, Company A, 1st Bn., 67th Armor Reg. “I don’t think they realize how much we appreciate the little things.” Soldiers displayed equipment and weapons for Blair to see and interact with. “It’s amazing and incredible to see everything out here,” said Blair. “When you hear about people coming over to the Middle East and Soldiers coming over to the Middle East, you kind of have a picture in your head of what’s going on, but you really don’t know until you come out here and see for yourself, it is very eye opening.” During her visit with the Soldiers, Blair decided to put on a small show and sing a song. “They were almost as excited as I was,” said Blair. “I still think I was more excited.” The Soldiers appreciated having the chance to meet Blair and know they were lucky. “Leaders do care, they care about the morale,” said Ingoldsby. “It was excellent that they passed it through and it went through the leadership to provide this opportunity to be able to meet her.” Blair looks forward to having the chance to come back and visit Soldiers again. “Anytime they want us to come out, we will definitely be here because we have enjoyed the few days we have been out here and we are looking forward to the rest of the tour,” said Blair. Blair plans to visit as many Soldiers as possible as her tour continues through Dec. 20. Soldiers of 1st Bn., 67th Armor Reg., 2nd ABCT, and Alaina Blair, center, country music star, pose for a photo during her visit to Camp Buehring, Kuwait, Dec. 8,. Jacob Fellows, brigade provost marshal, HHC, 2nd STB, 2nd ABCT. “There have been several collective working groups to ensure that everything was up to standard.” The desired result of the training is to better the unit and set leaders up for success in future. “We want to provide the leaders within the brigade with the tools to effectively meet the challenges of deployment while preparing us for future opportunities in the Army,” said Fellows.
