  1. 1. How To Add XY Data to ArcGIS GIS in Planning and Public Health
  2. 2. Open a window in ArcMap
  3. 3. Save your spreadsheet to your computer as a database file (.dbf)
  4. 4. <ul><li>Select “Add XY Data” </li></ul><ul><li>Browse your computer for the.dbf you just saved </li></ul>
  5. 5. Select the Coordinate System <ul><li>Select a Predefined Coordinate System (for this example: WGS 1984) </li></ul><ul><li>Click “OK” </li></ul>
  6. 6. Your XY data will appear as a layer
  7. 7. You can now select the variables from you database that you wish to be displayed on your map.
