2. 2. To begin to sharing with you who I am, and how I got here, I would like to share with you that I am adopted. I visit with my birth parents and 3 half brothers & one half sister, every few months. However, I live with my adoptive parent; Fred and Nancy Wahlig. I believe that they are the only parents I can consider to use the names of mother and father because they have always been there for me throughout my life since they day I was born. I will be telling you my family history through my adoptive parents history.
Personal Health History
3. 3. Personal Health History
I was named Emma because my parents liked the name because it flowed well with my last name, Wahlig. I was named Kathleen after my mom’s best friend Kathy because my mom felt that Kathy was a strong, independent women who had a good heart.
I was born on February 5th, 1994 in Sharp Hospital, here in San Diego. That day, I was brought home by my adoptive parents.
8. 8. Basically there is a long history to how my family traveled to America, so I will try to sum it up the best I can. There were 4-5 Warner brothers who all traveled together from England to Virginia, and from there they bought some land in Pennsylvania. They came to the United States in the late seventeen hundreds to eighteen hundreds. My great grandfather was a railroad worker and he married his wife when she was 16. Some of the brothers moved up to Ohio and formed a clan. Another group moved out to California and some formed the Warner Brothers Company. My great grandmother and her brother, Henry, worked in the Taylor Factory(Pork roll factory) soon after my great-great grandfather passed away due to an aneurism. The only information I know about my grandmother’s side was that the Macaroy’s traveled from Germany, and spoke (High) German.
Interview with my uncle
9. 9. My uncle also told me about how the Warner family is pretty healthy for the most part, however, most of the Warner’s seemed to die of Aneurisms/ high blood pressure.
My aunts and my mother have celiac disease which is when you can’t eat wheat or gluten. If I was not adopted then I possibly would have inherited Celiac disease, but otherwise, my family’s history o health is fairly good.
Interview with my uncle
10. 10. Fitness Testing + Nutrition
Push-ups-30=HEALTHY
Passing=7-15
Curl ups-35=Healthy
Passing=18-35
Trunk lift-12=Healthy
Passing=9-12
Sit/Reach-16/16=HEALTHY
Passing=12
Height/Weight-5’2”, W-105lbs
Mile-8:36=Healthy
Passing=8-10min
Studying-10 hours 30mins-I think that this is a lot of time and reflects the grades I get(A’s&B’s)
Sleeping- 35 hours-This averages to about 7 hours a night which is the bare minimum. It is not healthy and I should start going to bed earlier to be healthy.
TV-5 hours-I think this is definitely less than some other people, however, I am continuing to cut back on how much TV I watch.
Computer- 5 hour-I think this on the verge of too much time, however it is okay in a week’s span of time I believe.
Phone- 3 hours(texting total)-I think that is way too much, and reflecting on this data, I will immediately reduce it.
TOTAL= 47hours 30mins
11. 11. My hobbies include reading, hanging with friends, walking dogs, [TV]
Sports: I play club soccer and field hockey. I am the goalie for the field hockey team and I go to goalie clinics to improve my skills. I really enjoy playing goalie.
Talents: I am really good at math, sports, and figuring out what to do in tough situations.
Social and Emotional Health
12. 12. I have two dogs, Athena(10 years old-border-collie/lab mix) and Junior(4 years old-border-collie/lab/poodle mix).
Each summer, I go back to Virginia with my parents to visit all my cousins/aunts and uncles, which is really fun. Another trip that I went on in 2007 summer, was to China with my parents which was one of the best trip I have ever gone on. It was really interesting to see how different/similar the Chinese lifestyle is compared to San Diego life.
Social and Emotional Health
13. 13. Social and Emotional Health
I have many friends, but my two closest/best friends are Amy Moller and Brittany Perkins. We because great friends in seventh grade, and have been inseparable ever since. We hang out just about every weekend.
I have attended Mt Carmel preschool Park Village Elementary Deer Canyon Elementary Mesa Verde Middle School Westview High school.
I am interested in joining Link Crew-and maybe book club.
14. 14. Health Triangle
Age 15
Physical
Social
90
85
90
Emotional/ Mental
I think I am in great physical condition because I play field hockey and soccer constantly. I really enjoy being active; being active also helps my attitude. The more I exercise and play sports the more I am happy with myself and enjoy learning new soccer tricks as well as things in school. Exercising and eating right keeps me emotionally happy and socially, I love to hang with people and I have a variety of friends. . When I tore my ACL, and could not participate in sports, my curiosity and enjoyment for learning slowly deteriorated until I could run and play again. I also eat adequately well, however I could probably cut back on eating so much junk food and maybe incorporate more nutrition into my daily intake. I also probably do not get enough sleep because I seem to procrastinate on homework, and then stay up late doing it.
22. 22. The song that represents who I am is Pork and Beans by Weezer. I chose this song because the lyrics to me meant that the composer would never change himself to please other people. Or he would never change who he was to fit in with others. I think this describes me because I try not to care what people think about me and this song is fun and cheerful like me. The meaning also is the thesis to the way I enjoy living my life, by being myself even if I may be overly wacky compared to others.
Unique Self
23. 23. 24. 24. Self Portrait
I drew myself extremely simple because I feel that this is how I see myself, the little tiny details that sets us apart from each other seem trivial. I see myself as more than a face, but an independent soul.
25. 25. My fifth grade teacher, Mr. Bueker made an extremely positive impact on me because he changed the way I view the world. He taught my class that asking questions was sometimes better than finding answers, because questions can be never ending. Mr. Bueker was especially important to me because he created a trip for all the fifth graders to go on a 280mile biking from the Colorado River to the Pacific Ocean. It was an amazing experience. We rode for seven days during spring break and camped out at schools along the way.
Future Aspirations
26. 26. You may not know how much you influenced me, but each lecture that you gave us revolving around the news in the paper, always had a strong message behind it. It was like you knew exactly how to teach us about little lessons in life. I appreciate everything that you did for me, because not all teachers go as above and beyond in their job description like you. Thank you for teaching me to push myself to my limits and to never give up, even on the toughest climbs of a bike ride for instance.
Dear Mr. Bueker,
27. 27. In three years, I see myself living at college(not sure which one yet) with possible a small job. In five years, I will probably be attending graduate school, with some sort of job in the forensic anthropological department. In ten years I can see myself possibly having a family of my own, hopefully in the field of forensic anthropology, living in a place with lots of mountains, rather than a city which feels too crowded for my personal taste.
Future Aspirations
28. 28. If I could only accomplish one thing in my life, it would be to save a child from a bad situation and be a foster mother/adopt a child that needed love in order to be successful and off the streets. I would want to do this because I am adopted and I am extremely appreciative to my adoptive parents, and I would love to be able to do the same thing for another child.
Future Aspirations
29. 29. The media influences my life because I take in to consideration what the latest fashion trends are when I am out shopping. However, I seem to mix clothing and make my own style that flows with current fashions but not exactly. The media influences what movies look appealing to my taste, however the media does not influence me when it comes to music. I listen to a variety of bands, and some do not get to much press and therefore I only hear about them from my friends. The media has sme positive influences on people’s lives, however the way they seem to portray what women should wear/act/look like, seems to be degrading.
Media Influence
