Slide 5: Memory Verse for This Week • Mark 10:14 – But when Jesus saw it, He was greatly displeased and said to them, “Let the little children come to Me, and do not forbid them; for of such is the kingdom of God.”

Slide 6: #199- The Transfiguration Matthew 17:1-13

Slide 7: Matthew 16:28 • Jesus Transfigured on the Mount • 28 “Assuredly, I say to you, there are some standing here who shall not taste death till they see the Son of Man coming in His kingdom.”

Slide 8: Matthew 17:1-13 • 1 Now after six days Jesus took Peter, James, and John his brother, led them up on a high mountain by themselves; 2 and He was transfigured before them. His face shone like the sun, and His clothes became as white as the light.

Slide 9: Matthew 17:1-13 • 3 And behold, Moses and Elijah appeared to them, talking with Him. 4 Then Peter answered and said to Jesus, “Lord, it is good for us to be here; if You wish, let us make here three tabernacles: one for You, one for Moses, and one for Elijah.”

Slide 10: Matthew 17:1-13 • 5 While he was still speaking, behold, a bright cloud overshadowed them; and suddenly a voice came out of the cloud, saying, “This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased. Hear Him!” 6 And when the disciples heard it, they fell on their faces and were greatly afraid.

Slide 11: Matthew 17:1-13 • 7 But Jesus came and touched them and said, “Arise, and do not be afraid.” 8 When they had lifted up their eyes, they saw no one but Jesus only. • 9 Now as they came down from the mountain, Jesus commanded them, saying, “Tell the vision to no one until the Son of Man is risen from the dead.”

Slide 12: Matthew 17:1-13 • 10 And His disciples asked Him, saying, “Why then do the scribes say that Elijah must come first?” • 11 Jesus answered and said to them, “Indeed, Elijah is coming first and will restore all things.

Slide 13: Matthew 17:1-13 • 12 But I say to you that Elijah has come already, and they did not know him but did to him whatever they wished. Likewise the Son of Man is also about to suffer at their hands.” 13 Then the disciples understood that He spoke to them of John the Baptist.

Slide 27: Some not taste death before see Son of Man coming?

Slide 28: Elijah has not died yet

Slide 29: He was taken up by a chariot of fire straight to God

Slide 30: But he will die before Jesus’ second coming

Slide 31: “Why then do the scribes say that Elijah must come first?” • Old prophecy in the book of Malachi – Before the Lord comes, Elijah will turn the hearts of people to the God of their fathers • Was the prophecy incorrect? – NO! The prophecy is correct!

Slide 32: Two comings of Jesus (the Messiah) • 1st coming – In humiliation – Die on the cross – Time: About 2,000 years ago • 2nd coming – In glory – Establish the kingdom of God – Time: Nobody knows, but look forward to it!

Slide 33: Before 1st coming of Jesus… • John the Baptist represents Elijah • Luke 1 – 13 But the angel said to [Zacharias], “Do not be afraid, Zacharias, for your prayer is heard; and your wife Elizabeth will bear you a son, and you shall call his name John… – 17 He will also go before Him in the spirit and power of Elijah… to make ready a people prepared for the Lord.” • Note: He is not Elijah, he only represents Elijah

Slide 34: Before 2 coming of Jesus… nd • Elijah will come back • Malachi 4 – 5 \"See, I will send you the prophet Elijah before that great and dreadful day of the LORD comes. 6 He will turn the hearts of the fathers to their children, and the hearts of the children to their fathers; or else I will come and strike the land with a curse.\" • However, this time he will die after he has finished his duty

Slide 35: #200- Jesus and the Children Mark 10:13-16

Slide 36: Mark 10:13-16 • Jesus Blesses Little Children • 13 Then they brought little children to Him, that He might touch them; but the disciples rebuked those who brought them. 14 But when Jesus saw it, He was greatly displeased and said to them, “Let the little children come to Me, and do not forbid them; for of such is the kingdom of God.

Slide 37: Mark 10:13-16 • 15 Assuredly, I say to you, whoever does not receive the kingdom of God as a little child will by no means enter it.” 16 And He took them up in His arms, laid His hands on them, and blessed them.

Slide 38: • Jesus loves everybody, especially the little children • They are VERY IMPORTANT to Jesus • So important, that Jesus said…

Slide 39: Matthew 18:6 • “Whoever causes one of these little ones who believe in Me to sin, it would be better for him if a millstone were hung around his neck, and he were drowned in the depth of the sea.”

Slide 40: What is a millstone???

Slide 41: THIS is a millstone…!

Slide 42:

Slide 43: …wow…

Slide 53: He was only 4 ½ years old

Slide 54: But through it all, it seems like he understood…

Slide 55: That Jesus loves him

Slide 56: • We must receive the kingdom of God as little children

Slide 57: • Does NOT mean we have to BE children in order to believe in Jesus

Slide 58: • Means we have to be LIKE children and submit to Jesus with humility just like children should submit to their parents – Humility means being humble, the opposite of being proud
