  • Excitation Transformer (PPT)
    Normally not provided by GE.
    Externally mounted to the GEEEC.
    4160/380(480) vac
    Most 7FA units are 480 vac but there are exceptions!!!!
    Depending upon the site, a breaker called 41AC maybe provided on the low voltage side of the transformer.
  • 1) Ask the students to find the relay, mounted on the RTB board that initiates a trip? (K24 relay, 94EX, the 30EX is an alarm relay
  • Look closely, the K24 relay is energized, this means the exciter is healthy, no trip.
  • What input is used to input the 52G contact?
    Why do you think the exciter needs to know when 52G closes? (OEL ON line and OEL Off line is one reason)
  • The base operator interface for the EX2000 is <cr> the Intelligent Operator Interface (IOS). It is microprocessor based and interfaces with the control using a data link. <cr> While it can do sequencing we try to down play the “Intelligent” part. <cr> The IOS has six displays that can be used to display A/N data, one is used as a system alarm display. 32 PB and status lights let us use the IOS to feedback more status information that ever could be outputed on an old analog excitor. The IOS also has a diagnostic display to feedback information as to why an operation could not be done. <cr> While hard I/O can be added to the IOS so a customer could use SW, meters and light, all retrofits customers have used the IOS as the man interface. <cr> By the end of this year, the Mark V data link interface will be a standard offering. Until then we are using I/O to interface the Mark V with the EX2000 like old analog systems did. <cr>

    67. 67.  GE Power Systems Shaft Voltage Suppressor (SVS) • Protects the generator journal bearings. • Limits shaft to ground voltages to less than 7 vdc. • If the voltages are high enough, the voltage can cause an arc from the shaft through the oil and into the journal bearing babbit. • The SVS is a low pass filter that conducts the high frequency components of the induced voltages to ground.
