In Costa Rica, if used as a solar resource averages of 17 MJ/m2 of energy efficiency and a
temperature above 24°C, in 11 hours of radiation can absorb approximately 2.500 Kcal/m2
which it is the energy needed to increase temperature of 50 liters of water to 74 °C.

                            If it is cloudy, or night, or raining ... does the solar
                            system work?

                            The solar panels not only capture the sun's rays
                            (UV) during clear days, the existing of diffuse
                            radiation on cloudy days is also exploited (but at a
                            lower yield than in favorable circumstances).

                            During periods of adverse weather, the water
                            storage is responsible for maintaining the constant
                            temperature water with almost no losses of
                            temperature.

San Jose’s Street Sweeper
Business case:
          How to improve sweeping in San Jose Town
•   Municipalidad de San Jose is management this effort.

•   500 000 cars passes by San Jose down town everyday.

•   ¼ of the national trash is produced only in San Jose.

•   San José produces 3 000 tons of daily garbage.

•   It has 150 workers, each one of them picks up
    between 50 and 70 kg of garbage per bag.
Searched Information
• A research done by the Municipalidad de San José in
  2008 shows that:
   –   More than the 78 % of the recollected trash is recycle
   –   42% is paper
   –   11.5% is glass
   –   10% metal
   –   9% plastic
   –   27% garden and food trash.

    All landfill should only have 2.1% of the
    total garbage.
Current Sweeper model
   1. This wheel barrel isn’t the appropriate
      design to do this kind of job.
   2. It requires a lot of effort
   3. It is slow.
   4. It is not ergonomic
   5. It causes the user back and arm damages
      during their labor.
   6. 2km daily
The proposal

• The proposal consists of a new street sweeper:
  –   Load: 550 Kg.
  –   Max speed: 20 km/h sweeping
  –   Electric
  –   Working width: 1650 mm
  –   Night shift sweeper
Conclusion
• Regarding results:
    –   This change will cause an effective trash collection for maintaining the city sweep.
    –   New image will be given to the city.
    –   Odor will be contained in the truck.
    –   Garbage not visible.
    –   Garbage collection is only at night
    –   Electric load at day
    –   Friendly with environment
    –   Cover more distance: 20km vr 2km
    –   Ergonomic
    –   Positive ROI
