    • 58.08 = z
    • 56.78
    • +1.30
    • 58.08

    • 45.6 – 3.784 = z
    • 41.816 = z
    • (Don’t forget to line up decimals)
    • That’s the rule!!!!
    • 45.600
    • -3.784 (Don’t forget to borrow)
    • 41.816
  • 5.
    • 45.8 + 23 = z
    • 68.8 = z
    • OH!! We need to find the decimals!!!!!
    • The 23 needs a decimal.
    • It is located behind the 3 (23.)
    • 45.8
    • +23.0
    • 68.8
  • 6.
    • 78 – 3.567 = z
    • 74.433 = z
    • OH!!!! We need a decimal for the 78.
    • Don’t forget, it is located behind the last digit (78.)
    • Line up decimals, fill in with zeros and subtract.
    • 78.000
    • -3.567
    • 74.433
  • 7. Don’t forget integers rules!!
    • Addition Rules
    • If signs are the SAME,
    • ADD and keep the sign.
    • If the signs are DIFFERENT,
    • SUBTRACT and keep sign of larger absolute value.
    • Subtraction Rule
    • ADD opposite, then use addition rules

    • -89.23 + 132. 8 = z
    • 43.57 = z
    • Should we add or subtract?
    • Subtract, because the signs are different.
    • 132.80 (put it first because it has the larger absolute value)
    • -89.23
    • 43.57 (answer will be positive)
  • 9.
    • -89.45 – 34 = z (need to add opposite)
    • -89.45 + (-34) = z
    • -123.45 = z
    • Should we add or subtract?
    • (Add, because the signs are the same)
    • (OH!!!! Where is the decimal in the 34? We need it!!!!)
    • 89.45
    • + 34.00
    • 123.45
    • This answer will be negative, because both decimals are negative.
  • 10.
    • 56.23 – (-34.2) + 45.365 – 100 = z
    • ( 56.23 + 34.2 ) + 45.365 + (-100) = z (add Opposite)
    • ( 90.43 + 45.365 ) + (-100) = z
    • ( 135.795 + (-100) ) = z
    • 35.795 = z
    • 56.23 90.430 135.795
    • +34.20 +45.365 - 100.000
    • 90.43 135.795 35.795
