Tips for searching in Grow @hp October 2008 – HP Restricted
Advanced Search Tips
When you use Advanced Search, make sure to specify the type of Knowledge Resource that you want to search for (e.g. Courses, Offerings, Certifications, Curricula , etc)
Search for Courses if you want to view all the courses that exist in the Grow @hp Learning Catalog. In order to register for a course, employees must find an available Offering (scheduled delivery) for that course
Search for Offerings if you only want to view courses that you can register for now (i.e. courses that are available as Web-Based Training or that have been scheduled for delivery). Courses that aren’t scheduled won’t be included in Offering Search Results.
Include % in your search term to return more results (e.g. %storage)
If you are searching for a specific Course or Offering using the Course or Offering ID, you must include the leading zeros if applicable
Type your search criteria (Course ID, Offing ID, or Title) directly into the Search text box. If you don’t find what you are looking for, try using Advanced Search
Note: The Advanced Search function searches for Offerings by default Note: Courses in the Grow @hp Learning Catalog that do not have any scheduled Offerings will NOT display in the Offering search results
In the Catalog Search section of the Grow @hp home page, type your search criteria into the Search text box .
You can search by either Course ID, Offering ID, or Title.
If you have trouble or are looking for a new course, try using Advanced Search
October 2008 – HP Restricted ! Important: The Grow @hp Catalog Search feature has recently been upgraded, and can now be used to search by Course ID, Offering ID, and Offering ID. The Grow @hp team is in the process of making additional improvements to the Grow @hp Search feature. If you have trouble, try using Advanced Search.
If you search by Offering ID for a Virtual Classroom or Instructor-Led Training and there are no scheduled Offerings, no results will be returned
Use Advanced Search to find courses that have just been added to Grow @hp within the past several days
In the Catalog Search section of the Grow @hp home page, click Advanced Search
Select the type of search that you would like to conduct by clicking either Courses, Offerings, Certifications, or Curricula. (TIP: When you search for Offerings, make sure to delete the 'Enter Keyword, ID or Description' text from the Title field before searching)
Enter your search terms in the Title text box ( TIP: try including % to return more results)
Click Search Learning Catalog. Your search results will be displayed below

Remember to choose the type of search that you would like to conduct Note: Depending on the type of search that you performed and the results returned, you may have the option to Search for Offerings , Register , and/ or Add to Plan . The next several sections describe how to execute each of these actions
Tips for registering for an offering October 2008 – HP Restricted
In order to register for a course, employees must find an available Offering (scheduled delivery) of that course
The Delivery Type is the method of delivery for a course or offering. Delivery Types include Instructor Led Training (ILT), Virtual Classroom (VC), and Web-Based Training (WBT)
Instructor-Led Trainings are live events that participants attend in person. Students may benefit from the face-to-face interaction, however they may also have to travel to attend the event
Virtual Classroom trainings are instructor-taught live events, however participants attend virtually through a Virtual Classroom. Improvements in the VC technology has made more student-instructor interaction possible
Web-Based Trainings are NOT live events; they are self-paced online trainings available through Grow @hp. Learners access WBTs by launching or downloading the course content through Grow @hp, and can stop and restart the course at their convenience. WBTs offer learners the most flexibility around when they take the course and how much time they spend on each section of the course
The Price displayed in Grow @hp for offerings is used to calculate internal HP consumption, which is paid for out of the L&D training budget. Neither learners nor their managers are billed directly for these courses
Before you register for an offering, click on the Offering Title to open the detailed course Description to determine if the course meets your learning needs
Note: Some Grow @hp courses that are targeted to specific organizations or programs are NOT owned by L&D. These courses are identified in the course description
From the search results page, identify the course that you want to register for. If the course is available for registration (i.e. it is Web-Based Training or it is event-based training for which there is a scheduled offering) the Search Available Offerings link will be active.
Click Search Available Offerings
October 2008 – HP Restricted Note: The Request Public Offering feature is not currently enabled. Do not select this action Note: Course Titles are truncated. Hover the cursor over the Course Title to display the full course title
Register for an offering October 2008 – HP Restricted
Identify the offering that you would like to register for, and click Register
The search results page displays the offerings that are currently available for the course that you selected Caution: Check the Offering Title before you register to confirm that you are registering for the correct course
Register for a course October 2008 – HP Restricted Your Registration Confirmation page displays basic information about your enrollment You can launch the course now by clicking Launch Content, or you can access the course later by clicking the My Learning tab , then clicking My Enrollments on the left navigation bar
Tips for working with curricula in Grow @hp October 2008 – HP Restricted
Registering for a curriculum automatically adds that curriculum to your HP Development Plan in Grow @hp AND to the My Curricula section of the My Learning tab in Grow @hp
You my be registered for Curricula by HP, by your direct manager, and by yourself
There are several ways to register/ add a curriculum, however there is only one correct way to delete a curriculum (instructions are provided in this user guide)
Your manager will receive a notification email when you register for a curriculum. Click the Name of the curriculum to learn more about the curriculum before you register and trigger a notification email to your manager
After you register for a curriculum, you can choose curriculum paths, register for courses in the path, and track your completion status through Grow @hp
An individual who has been registered for a Curriculum may display the following statuses:
Assigned : Registered, but no modules/ course completed
In Progress: Some, but not all, of the modules/courses in the curriculum have been completed
Acquired : All modules/ courses in the curriculum have been completed

From the search results page (See “Search within Grow @hp” section of this user guide), identify the curriculum or certification for which you would like to register
In the Actions columns, click Register
The certification/ curriculum is now on your Grow @hp Development Plan, and you can choose curricula and certification paths, register for courses in the path, and track your completion status through Grow @hp
