Presenation of interactive and innovative Digital Research tool to browse data in the visual way with some requirements:
● Online presentation of strikes events should make its easy to track
and retrieve relevant data
● “Linked Data in action”: data from research datasets (Strikes
Database) and news articles (metadata) from the the Royal Library
(KB) linked together in order to create Semantic Web view
● Should help to answer researcher's questions in the most easiest way
by appropriate visualization of specific variables
● Should provide clear explanation of historical events by online
visualization tools like charts, maps and timelines
● To present data trends that may lead to new insights about facts and
events

Data Sources • The IISG Strikes database is a secondary historical resource created by the historian Dr. Sjaak van der Velden (13721 records up to 2008) https://collab.iisg.nl/web/labourconflicts/tabel • Newspapers archive from the National Library of Netherlands (KB) is an online collection of digitized Dutch daily newspapers dating from 1618 to 1995 (the digitized data is in XML format, following Dublin Core [5] metadata standards.) http://www.kb.nl •

Linked Data • Strike events that defined and described in the Strikes DB linked to the news articles digitized by National Library (KB) • Every link created by linking algorithm can be evaluated by hands or automatically • Wrong links can be changed or removed from the system • Correct links between events and articles can be exported in RDF/DCAT for further processing by Semantic Web tools supporting SPARQL (in progress)
