“ How Science Works” - how science fits into the world around us. The revised KS3 programme of study represents a shift in emphasis away from content towards scientific process and how science works. It includes scientific method and the way scientific knowledge develops. Therefore, in order to understand how science works, learners need to acquire skills such as practical collection of data, observation, analysis, presenting scientific information and effective argument. PLTS: The new focus on personal, learning and thinking skills will encourage pupils to become successful, independent learners. The PLTS framework comprises six groups of skills:  independent enquirers  creative thinkers  reflective learners  team workers  self-managers  effective participators.

Late Framework Changes Heinemann has pledged to incorporate any late changes to the Framework into all of its new Key Stage 3 materials. This ensures that teachers and learners are provided with the most up-to-date and relevant information and support.

Dr Jonathan Hare is a physicist and well-known TV presenter for Rough Science. This spread about “What Is Energy” looks at robots and phones. On the evaluation CD-ROM, you will also find an interview with author Berry Billingsley who talks in some detail about the robot fish and how she knows her own pupils will love reading about it!

The Teacher's Pack contains everything the teacher needs to run successful lessons, with guidance on teaching strategy and personalisation in every lesson guide.
