3. Outdoor
Outdoor navigation anywhere around the world has become seamless and
accurate - thanks to online maps and GPS technology which have matured over
the last 2 decades. It has ensured a perfect door-to-door navigation
Indoor
Last leg of the journey where user have problems navigating, due to absence of map and
directions can be called as Last Mile Problem is Navigation world
Last Mile Problem
4. Hospitals
• Help patients find labs / doctor rooms
• Help hospital staff to locate Mobile equipments
• Provide shortest path for patients and doctors
during Emergency situations
• Suggest a personalized sequence of rooms to visit
for each patient based on their medical needs
Airports
• Locate gates, duty free shops and check-in counters
• Provide walking distance and time for Point-Of-
Interest (check-in counter)
• Provide traveler’s location for Product delivery at any
spot inside airport
• Suggest a personalized sequence of location to visit
for each traveler based on their travel needs
Last Mile Scenarios
5. Warehouses
• Provide Shortest Path for forklift operators
to move goods quickly with reduced fuel
• Identify location of all forklifts in warehouse
on a real-time basis
• Avoid accidents by proximity sensors
• Gather information on frequently travelled
path, to optimize forklift movement
Enterprises
• People finder – help visitors locate the person they
plan to meet
• Locate and navigate to conference rooms
• Find printers, water coolers and cafeterias
• Remember your parking
Last Mile Scenarios
6. Hotels
• Identify rooms
• Preview window views of rooms
• Help guest choose their room based on
proximity to certain amenities
• Identify facilities and tariffs
• Help guests with Emergency exit during crisis
Retail
• Shortest path to the aisles containing the mechanize
shoppers are looking for
• In-store offers based on the aisle / Section they are
currently shopping
• E-checkout
• Find cafeterias, restrooms and other amenities.
Last Mile Scenarios
7. Future Scenarios
• Robots are good in turn-by-turn navigation, but do
not carry maps and routes
• By connecting them with Indoor Navigation server,
we provide them access to navigational information
• This Integration will free-up robot’s resources used in
Navigation algorithm which can be used for more
important tasks of the robot
• This would help deployment of Robots into any
building without any pre-configuration or setup time
Integration with Robots
• Location aware sensors
• Needed for layout and deployment of sensors
• Manage and maintain IOT infrastructure
• Record and maintaining physical distance
between sensors to plan for communication
• Helps to switch to nearest device during failover
scenarios
Integration with IOT
8. What is
Indoor Navigation?
• It is a Technology Framework providing
Location services for Indoor scenarios.
• It can fit seamlessly into any large
buildings – Airports, Hospitals, Retail
Stores, Office Buildings, etc.
• It is a 4-layered framework, providing
flexibility to grow in an incremental
manner.
11. Indoor location information
Customized feed - building information / office news / local weather
Location Based Features
12. Find the fastest way around complicated indoor environments using
turn by turn navigation
Handles multi-level locations / indoor to outdoor combinations
Search for other employees, view profile and navigate
Handles scenarios like interconnected buildings
between floors
Search and Navigate
13. Find amenities like restrooms, cafeterias, printers and water coolers.
Navigate to nearest amenity in the shortest possible path
Identify parking spots and remember your parking slot
Amenities
14. Emergency Evacuation
Find the closest emergency exit during any crisis
Trigger evacuation through any Crisis Management platform
15. Social Media
Identify friends who are in the building at that instance
TAG comments on Points Of Interest - Like
16. Share Location
Send your current location in the building to other contacts
Recipient user can then navigate to your current location
17. Technology Stack
Mapping
Conversion of building drawings to maps, plotting pathways, identifying
Point Of Interest
Navigation
Navigation Algorithms aiding in
calculating the shortest path
between two points on the map
Positioning & Tracking
Technology to detect the location of a
particular user and provide tracking and
dynamic navigation.
Application Layer
Applications that consumes the services provided by Indoor Navigator.
Interactive Layer
Multi level UI component that provides interactive content for Point Of Interest
18. Point Of Interest
• Mapping tool allows the
admin to mark the
navigable paths through
the floor / buildings.
• Provides flexibility to have
different categories of
path – one for visitors,
one for authorized
personal and one for fire-
fighters and emergency
crews
Allowable Path
Mapping Tools allows the users to create Place marks and Routing details on the maps. It allows building
administrators to Plot and Organize appropriate map data in a user friendly manner
• Point of Interest like
conference rooms, elevators
are marked and labeled
• Icons for amenities like
printers, water-coolers are
inserted
• Attributes of individual
objects are linked to their
infrastructure support
database.
Mapping
• Convert the floor plan
images into format suitable
for device rendering
• Identify the details to be
attached at different zoom-
levels
Map Creation
19. • Navigation system uses shortest path algorithms to find the shortest path between the source and
destination.
• After calculating the shortest path, it is rendered on the map in an interactive manner
• Navigation provides multiple options – climb through the staircase or use the elevator
• Ability to create an integrated outdoor-to-indoor path, provides a seamless experience
• Provides different levels of access controls to different categories of users

20. • Apple iOS Core Location framework combines Outdoor and Indoor user position detection capability
• Core Location leverage Wi-Fi technology to compute user position
• Core Location framework provides automatic detection of whether user is located Outdoors(GPS) or
Indoors(Wi-Fi)
• Apple A8 processor and M7 motion sensor adds optimization to accuracy of computed user position
• Existing Wi-Fi infrastructure shall be reused without additional infrastructure
• RF survey tools are available from Apple to record fingerprint

21. •iBeacon is Apple's implementation of Bluetooth low-energy (BLE) wireless
technology to create a different way of providing location-based services
• It is a small wireless sensor that emits bluetooth signals, which can be used for
geofencing
• Machine Learning algorithms combine the Received signal Strength information
together with bluetooth fingerprint of the floor, to arrive at the position of the
Mobile device

22. •Cisco MSE is a platform that helps to detect user location and provide location based
mobile services enabled through Wi-Fi
•User get connected to Cisco Access Points(AP) deployed at various locations on the floor
•Wireless LAN Controller from Cisco tracks all mobile phones connected to AP and MSE is
informed of the same
•Indoor Navigation framework can be integrated to MSE that can pull the location info
and render it on the floor map

Positioning Techniques
23. •Quick Response Code (QR Code) is a type of 2D Barcode which can hold
location information of the place where it is displayed.
• QR code scanner integrated in a Mobile Application can decode the location
info and render the users position on the indoor map.

24. Interactive Layer
• This layer helps user to interact with Point-Of-Interest embedded in the map
• These interactions are presented as a overlay above the maps at specific location.
• Multi level interactions can be plugged-in through admin tools
• Static Text, Image, Hyperlinks, Rich Text and sub menus are some of the interactive formats
possible
• Custom interactive definitions are possible where another application can be launched from
within the map, to achieve a specific task. Example : Indoor Navigator can launch another
app to book conference rooms
25. Application Layer
• All the services of Indoor Navigator - Mapping, Navigation, Positioning and Interactions are
exposed as Web Services that can be consumed by Application Layer with local cache /
event handling
• Indoor Navigator is agnostic of the Application Layer platform and delivers all its services as
web-view (HTML5). This helps in having one common SDK for all platforms – iOS, Android,
Desktop, Laptop, Kiosk, etc.
• This SDK approach has helped Indoor Navigator being used in diverse Application like,
Conference Room Booking, Trouble Ticketing, Emergency Evacuation, etc.
