  • India is becoming self sufficient in milk production and aiming towards export bulk milk products.(2012) Milk based Confectionery and milk products will play major roll in future ( Improves the supporting price for farmer) In India the fodder is not for grazing . Farmer will cut the green fodder as per the requirement for the day and feed the animal by chopping in to pieces Farmer keeps only small land ¼ acre to ½ acre land for exclusive fodder growing. 15% to 20% area will be more than 1 acre. Farmers shifting from traditional to commercial farming Dairy became second largest agro based industry in India Farmer uses 30 kg to 35 kg seed rate for 1 acre sowing Minimum silages/ Hays 5% to 7% farmers prefers silages/ hays 45 % to 50% farmers will depends only on crop residues for feeding. (Paddy/ Wheat/ Sorghum/ Maize/ Millet) Govt. Agencies/ NGO/ Dairies/ Pvt. Dairy agencies providing seeds 10% to 15% farmers on subsidy basis of SSG (Cost is Rs. 20/- per Kg and Rs. 10/- subsidy) 70% seed sowings will be in winter/ Summer season – September to March (Temperatures minimum 10 degree and 40 degree max) 30% Farmers prefers 1st and 2nd cut only , which will allow them to go for other crop. Low focus in fertilizer application 35% buffalo and 60% Cows in milking cattle Average 4.3 liters milk in cows and 2.2 liters in buffaloes . Micro nutrient deficiencies keeping low milk yield.

    • Generally fodder crops are not for grazing.
    • Farms are shifting from traditional to commercial farming
    • Milk production has become the second largest agro based industry in India
    • Micro nutrient deficiencies keeping low milk yield.
    • Farmers generally aim for bulk rather than quality
    Advanta India Limited
  • What is Forage Quality?
    • The ability of a forage to meet an animals nutritional requirements.
