Behind the lens is thelight field sensor which sports ”11Megarays” as the companycalls it, although they dont seem to be too keen to say whatthis compares to in traditional Megapixles. Its pretty clearthat the Lytro camera doesnt shoot super high resolutionpictures, as in various videos from the launch event companyrepresentatives are talking HD video resolution and images The bad news is that currently the Lytro camera only comeswith sides of 1080 pixels. The Asus RT-N66U was first seen a while back inJanuary during the last CES. Look inside for a quick tour.Asus sent us theRT-N66U Dark Knight Dual-Band Routerafter we reported on its next router line-up last week. The RT-N66U follows the Black Diamond series design. On the backof the router there are three RP-SMA removable dual-bandantenna, DC input jack, power switch, two USB ports, resetbutton, WPS button, 1x gigabit WAN port and 4x gigabit LANports. Asus decided to use red PCB on the router. There are two large ceramic heatsinks along with a small fan to help dissipate heat from the chipsets. Unfortunately, we wont know the actual specifications of the router until it is released. Though, were speculating that it will be using Ralink chipsets for its SoC and RF tranciever, Realtek gigabit controller, 32MB flash and 256MB RAM. A birdie told us that it will be using Broadcom radio, with 32MB for flash and 128MB of memory and an extra MicroSD socket for expansion. 20

What werelooking at is one controller, or "digital engine" as Gigabyteseems to want to call it, for the CPU and two for thememory, i.e. one for each pair or quad of DIMMs dependingon the motherboard layout. The controllers are made byInternational Rectifier, which recently acquired CHiL whichis a well-known brand of a wide range of power related ICs.Because of the split memory banks, adding a separate powerregulation circuitry to each side of the motherboard allows foran overall simpler board design in terms of power delivery. All of Gigabytes X79 boards are also compatible with both theIntel VR12 and VR12.5 specs which suggest that we might beseeing support for Ivy Bridge-E on the X79 platform. As for the motherboards themselves, well, weve already seenseveral previews of them, least not the G1 Assassin 2 whichyou can now ogle in its full glory below. Its pretty clear thatGigabyte designed this board with four additional SATA portsin mind, but thanks to Intel, theres now a blank space on theboard where the ports shouldve been. Theres really very littleelse to add about this board that we havent already covered. Moving on, we have the GA-X79-UD7 which sports the X58- OC colours and a small Gigabyte OC logo. Although the board carries a lot of pedigree from the X58-OC board, were not looking at a feature stripped board this time around; instead this is a fully loaded model. Not too much appears to have changed since IDF, although once again, there are four missing SATA ports. The chokes appear to have changed as well from some rather industrial looking grey ones to some shiny black ones, but this also means that the total count has gone down from 22 to 18, suggesting fewer power phases. That said, we doubt itll make much difference to anyone except potentially the most extreme overclockers. 11
  • October 26th, 2011 Published by: VR-Zone Finally we have the GA-X79-UD3 and as with the other three boards, we see the same blank space where the additional Intel SATA ports shouldve been. Itll be interesting to see if IntelNext up we have the GA-X79-UD5, the only board in decides to do a new revision of the X79 chipset in the futureGigabytes X79 range to feature eight DIMMs. Again only that adds these missing ports or not. This board was not postedminor changes, such as the missing SATA ports, but otherwise on Gigabytes Facebook page and as such we sadly only have anothing significant that we can notice. Once again, we think smaller picture from Gigabytes unofficial/official blog.this will be the most popular X79 model from Gigabyte. 12

As we wait for next-gen 28nm GPUs, NVIDIA is preparing an upgrade for the popular GeForce GTX 560 Ti. Much like the GeForce GTX 260 was upgraded to GTX 260 (216 Core) in 2008, the GTX 560 Ti is set to be revised as GTX 560 Ti (448 Core). Despite the branding, the GTX 560 Ti (448 Core) has much more in common with GTX 570 than the vanilla GTX 560 Ti. Unlike the GTX 560 Ti, which is based on a fully enabled GF114 die, the GTX 560 Ti (448 Core) will be based on the GF110 die. In essence, it is GTX 570 with 1 SM disabled, and likely underclocked. It features 14 active SMs, which indlude 448 SP / CUDA Cores and 56 TMUs; 320-bit memory and 40 ROPs - a very similar configuration to the old GTX 470. Along with increased performance, power consumption is expected to rise over the 384 SP GTX 560 Ti. A benefit to using GF110 means the revised 560 Ti will feature 2 x SLI connectors, enabling 3-way SLI. In terms of display outputs, DVI, HDMI and DisplayPort are included. Visually, the reference GTX 560 Ti (448) is expected to look identical to the reference GTX 570. The revised GTX 560 Ti is expected to compete with overclocked SKUs of the HD 6950 2GB, and fill in the gap between HD 6950 2GB (~$280) and GTX 570/HD 6970 (~ $340). Priced right, the GTX 560 Ti (448) could be an enticing option until the next-gen GPUs hit. NVIDIA is preparing to release its first Kepler part, GK107, in Q1 2012. Other features include Indilinx proprietary nDurancetechnology which claims to increase the NAND flash life byup to twice that of competing solutions, fast boot technologywhich as the name suggests reduces boot time, TRIM supportand background garbage collection, NCQ support up to 32queue depth and of course SMART support. What all this adds up to are some pretty speedy SSDs withthe SATA 6Gbps Octane SKU hitting sequential read speedsof up to 560MB/s making it one of the fastest SSDs outthere in terms of read performance. On the write side thingsslow down a bit with speeds of up to 400MB/s, not quiteSandForce territory, but well have to wait for some real worldbenchmarks before we can tell how well it really performs.Moving on to 4K random reads were looking at 45k IOPS, onpar with Crucials m4 SSD with the Marvell controller, but stillslower than SandForce. As for the SATA 3Gbps SKU were looking at fast, butfar from mind blowing performance with a sequential readperformance of 275MB/s and write performance of 265MB/s,enough to beat off Intels 320-series with ease. The 4K randomwrite performance should reach up to 30k IOPS, again betterthan Intel, but not something thatll set anyones world on fire.OCZ will be offering both SKUs in sizes from 128GB to 1TB,but the maximum performance should already have beenreached with the 128GB models due to the way the Everestcontroller works. OCZ hasnt gone out with official pricing asyet, but estimations of between US$1.10 and US$1.30 per GBis expected for the Octane series. 24
