Transcript of "SGcafe Anime News For Otaku Aug 2013 Issue"

  1. 1. August 1st, 2013 Published by: VR-Zone 1 SGCafe : Cosplay | Vocaloid | Otaku | Pop Culture A daily publication about Cosplay, Vocaloid, Otaku and Japanese Pop Culture Feast upon Christon Cafe’s special ‘Sunday Without God’ menu Source: http://sgcafe.com/2013/08/feast-upon- christon-cafes-special-sunday-without-god-menu/? utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=feast-upon- christon-cafes-special-sunday-without-god-menu By spartanchef on August 1st, 2013 The Japanese restaurant scene has always been known for theme restaurants. Some restaurants have a hospital theme with waitresses dressed like nurses and serve food that looks like something you would expect to eat while being hospitalized while others take inspiration from various cultures all over the world. There is even one with a Christian theme with the restaurant’s interior looking like the inside of a Catholic Cathedral. Now, one of these restaurants are doing a collaboration with one of the most talked about anime this summer, ‘Sunday without God’. (For more Sunday without God here on SGCafe, click here) That restaurant is Christon Cafe in Shinjuku which has a religious theme based on Christianity. The cafe has announced that they will be having this collaboration for the entire month as this limited time menu will last from August 1-31. The first item on the menu is the 47th Semetary. It is an orange-flavored Tiramisu plated to look like a scene from the anime’s first episode. This dessert costs 780 yen per serving.
  2. 2. August 1st, 2013 Published by: VR-Zone 2 Next we have Blue and Scarlet eye Macedonia. No, I’m not talking about the country where Alexander the Great was born, I’m talking about a dessert salad made of tiny slices of fruit. This dessert also costs 780 yen per serving. Next we go to the drinks. Let’s start off with the Ai, named after our cute little grave keeper. This drink costs 580 yen per serving and is non-alchoholic. We then go to the drink inspired by the mysterious man who will not die, Humpny. This drink costs 850 yen per serving. Finally, here’s a drink inspired by the older, more experienced grave keeper, Sker (or Scar). This drink costs 750 yen and is served with a lemon garnish. Those who avail of this special collaboration menu will get a Christon Cafe X Sunday Without God collaboration poster and to those who are able to order the entire menu will get a special Sunday Without God poster.

With Free! still red hot and fans still talking about it, there is no doubt that Free! mania is still running wild, that’s why anime merchandise retail giant Animate has conducted a character poll on their stores, with each store yielding a different result. One peculiar thing came up however, is that one character always stood out. He took first place in three stores and without a doubt, now stands as the series’ most popular character. Can you guess who he is? Here are the results of Animate’s Free! (For more on Free here on SGCafe, click here) character poll on three of their stores: 5-Nagisa Hazuki -822 votes 4- Rei Ryuugasaki- 688 votes 3- Haruka Nanase- 617 votes 2- Rin Matsuoka – 532 votes 1- Makoto Tachibana-515 votes 5-Nagisa Hazuki- 368 votes 4- Rei Ryuugasaki- 294 votes 3- Haruka Nanase-264 votes 2- Rin Matsuoka -240 votes 1- Makoto Tachibana-208 votes 5- Rei Ryuugasaki- 127 v0tes 4- Hazuki Nagisa- 143 votes 3- Matsuoka Rin- 181 votes
  4. 4. August 1st, 2013 Published by: VR-Zone 4 2- Haruka Nanase- 266 votes 1- Makoto Tachibana- 286 votes Speaking of summer, the season also means that it is almost time for Comic Market 84 or Comiket 84 and it is only fitting for one of the hottest anime of the summer take part in one of its most highly anticipated events. That’s right, official Free! merchandise will go on sale during Comiket 84! (For more anime, manga and Japanese video game merchandise here on SGCafe, click here) The first item is a set of Free! character straps. It comes with a two-fold mirror and a Free! summer pouch. These items come as a set and will be sold for 5,000 yen a set. The next set comes with a Free! microfibre towel featuring Makoto, Nagisa, Rei, Haruka and Rin as well as a Free! tote bag and five buttons, each with an image of a Free! character. This set also costs 5,000 yen. These items will be available during Comiket 84 which will be held from August 10-12 at the world-famous Tokyo Big Sight. These goods will be sold on the 4th floor. Cosmo Youth Parade 2013 highlights Source: http://sgcafe.com/2013/08/cosmo-youth-parade-2013- highlights/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=cosmo- youth-parade-2013-highlights By sentinel011 on August 1st, 2013 The Cosmo Youth Parade has been a mainstay event where cosplayers, card players and anime lovers can have a relaxing time at *Scape for the past couple of years. This year, the Cosmo Youth Parade had a lot in store for fans of famed cosplayers King X Mon and Misa from Taiwan, as well as Yui & Saffron from Hong Kong. As part of the International Cosplay Exchange, these cosplayers were there for a meet-and-greet session with their fans and fellow cosplayers, not to mention photobooks and other merchandise on sale. Fans of these cosplayers were there to have their merchandise signed as well.

The anime that never dies, despite the fact that in every movie almost all of the characters do. But this doesn’t seem to ever bother anyone, and so the flood of merchandise set to be readily consumed by the Evangelion fandom continues well into the present. After releasing fragrances inspired by popular characters Rei Ayanami, Shinji Ikari, and Asuka Langley this May, Bandai continues the collection with “Cosmetic with EVANGELION 2 WAY Fragrance Mist Type-13″. The aptly named 2 WAY includes a set of 110 mL bottles featured by the famous boys of Evangelion:Shinji and Kaworu Nagisa. (Read more on Evangelion from SGCafe).
  7. 7. August 1st, 2013 Published by: VR-Zone 7 The Shinji version is called “Blue Musk”, while the Kaworu version is called “White Citrus”. For some reason, I feel like these smells fit the characters, so good job Bandai and the cosmetics brand developer Creer Beaute. The bottles are even designed to simulate the boys’ plug suits. You can pre-order the fragrance set here. The cost for the set is 3,150 yen. While the bottles themselves look cool, I can’t help but say that the box is absolutely adorable. The piano detail just brings me back to that scene, which is one of my favorite Evangelion scenes ever. This time around, the event’s organizers have announced that starting from 2014, the prestigious film festival will focus more on one of Japan’s most recognizable pop culture aspects – anime. According to one of the organizers, they wanted to push anime and add an animation category for this year’s festival. However, due to time constraints, the animation category was not added but instead, its addition will be moved to next year’s film festival. (For more anime news here on SGCafe, click here) They mentioned Hayao Miyazaki’s Kaze Tachinu as a great example for the new animation category. Studio Ghibli’s latest movie is currently entered in another prestigious film competition, The Venice International Film Festival, which will be held next month.
  8. 8. August 1st, 2013 Published by: VR-Zone 8 According to Tokyo International Film Festival Director General Yasushi Shiina, Japanese animation is highly recognized and valued internationally and in the same way at the TIFF, the animation, off course that is the start from now, but should have more recognition and importance, significance. Japan is certainly known for animation and now, the organizers have seen that Japanese animation is a huge part of their popular culture. Hopefully, with the addition of an animation category next year as well as the festival turning its focus to anime, we will get to see some good quality anime because of the competition. The 26th Tokyo International Film Festival will be held from October 17-25 at Roppongi Hills. The opening movie will be “Captain Philips” starring Tom Hanks and the closing film will be “The Kiyosu Conference”. Read more anime news here on SGCafe. Hatsune Miku has always been a huge part of Wonfes and WonFes may never be complete without a single Hatsune Miku figure spotted among the hundreds of soon-to-be- released figures. However, there is one Miku figure that particularly sticks out; Union Creative’s Calne Ca. (Read more on our Wonfes 2013 coverage as well as Vocaloid here on SGCafe) The figure of one of Hatsune Miku’s “derivatives” certainly is scary with 6 insect-appendages coming out of Miku’s mouth. Her left hand is presented as a skeleton while her right is presented as a robotic arm with claws. Her red right eye and her robotic left eye as well as her sea louse hair decoration add to the figure’s creepiness appeal. Her legs are also robotic.

YouTube user jyujyunosoke recently uploaded his first video to the site, and it certainly has fans buzzing. After all, he recently used wood to recreate a small scale Gundam figure. To put it in perspective, here’s a shot of the Gundam’s head next to a one yen coin (More Gunpla goodness here on SGCafe!):

Each of the parts that make up the completed Gundam had to be cut and sanded individually from materials like chopsticks and small wooden stakes. Where the darkened parts of the Gundam are, each part was set over a candle until the perfect hue was set. And what did he use his newly built wood Gundam for? To guard his collection of toothpicks from anyone attempting to try the same in his house. You can watch the full build of the wooden counterpart in the video below. More on Gundam here at SGCafe! That is, if a listing on a catalogue page for all Monogatari series anime on Japanese online music and video store Mora is to be believed. (More stories on the Monogatari series here on SGCafe) The movie was originally slated for a 2012 release, but has since been postponed to an unspecified future release date. Right now if you go to the official site (you can watch the movie’s PV over there), you’ll note that no date or time period for the theatrical release has been released. We’re guessing that Mora accidentally jumped the gun here and revealed the release timing for the Kizumonogatari movie ahead of the official announcement. That said, we’re not ruling out the possibility that maybe Mora just got their facts wrong, although that is quite unlikely since they had to list a bunch of information relating to the Monogatari Series Second Season in general.

For those unfamiliar with Sukiya, it’s a fastfood chain in Japan that’s as prominent as McDonald’s; almost every town has one or two. They specialize in serving gyuudon, a bowl of rice served with beef on top. That makes it the perfect place for Toriko, with its own fantastic meals, to appear at. (Keep up with Toriko here on SGCafe!) The special themed bowl for Toriko will be an Okinomi Ushitama Don, a bowl that combines the taste of okinomiyaki and beef, something that usually does not go in the Kansai specialty dish. To match the taste as closely as possible, though, it will include some of the standard ingredients that go into the savory pancake dish. That means, cabbage, okinomiyaki sauce (listed as special sauce), and of course mayonaise, dried bonito flakes and seaweed flakes. Taking care to fully appeal to the usual Sukiya crowd, it is served with a raw egg on top. For those purchasing the dish as part of the campaign, they will be rewarded with a chance to win a mini-size version bowl featuring Toriko. Only 5,000 people will win the bowl,
  15. 15. August 1st, 2013 Published by: VR-Zone 15 which costs 390 yen for the normal size, and only between August 1 and August 8 when the campaign runs. This isn’t the first time Sukiya has teamed up with anime or manga characters to offer a specially themed bowl. The pictures went viral in a matter of minutes. Whether this mech can actually move or this big white hulk is just a gigantic static prop has not been revealed so far. Also, whether the mech was transported for filming purposes or just for storage has also not been revealed as of the moment. During the Tokyo International Anime fair 2013, the group behind Patlabor, Headgear have announced that they will be releasing a live-action movie based on the series. The movie will be released next year, 2014 and will involve one of the people who have created Patlabor, Mamoru Oshii who directed the animated movie back in 1989. Mobile Police Patlabor is set in the near future (which is at that time 1998-2002) where giant robots known as “Labors” are used to do all sort of jobs from construction, heavy lifting, fighting, etc. They are operated by human pilots who sometimes turn to a life of crime. These criminals use the “Labors” to conduct their misdeeds. Outgunned by the criminals using these powerful robots, the police force have started using these robots to counter these criminals. They are called “Patrol Labor Units” or Patlabors and their sole purpose is to fight crime. The original manga by Masami Yuki (also a member of Headgear) and the OVA’s were released in 1988 while the animated film was released in 1989. A 47-episode TV anime series followed afterwards in October 1988. It also inspired even more adaptations like light novels and video games. Read more Anime news here on SGCafe. Even before uploading and joining the site, though, she garnered fame worldwide in the music community for being the youngest student accepted at Purcell School in London when she was five and gaining a permanent visa to Australia in recognition of her talent. She’s held several concerts already around the world and is now sharing some of the happiness she shows while playing with even more people on Nico Nico Douga. (Even more VOCALOID news here at SGCafe!) Although she has tackled several other pieces famous to fans of anime and Japanese pop, from Kyary Pamyu Pamyu’s Ninjari Bang Bang! to Laputa’s most famous theme “The Decay of Laputa”. On July 25, as part of a special AyaNico festival streaming series, she took on the fastest Vocaloid song of them all: The Disappearance of Hatsune Miku. At its peak tempo, Miku sings at 240 beats per minute, something Ayako accomplishes easily with a series of tremolo chords. The rest of the song she handles just as beautifully. The originally Nico Nico Douga video is here, so take a look. For those unable to access the video, a mirror is below. The original version of The Disappearance of Hatsune Miku for comparison’s sake: Within five days of uploading, the video has already hit the number one spot on NicoNico with 140,000 views. Fans comments and reactions have been extremely positive as well, the highest compliment perhaps being that Ayako herself looked like a goddess. Others have remarked that even with the violin parts, it’s as if you can still hear Miku, even when the violin sounds drown out the vocal parts altogether. Ayako will be holding another live stream event on August 8 on her Nico Nico Channel, AyaNico. It starts at 10 PM JST, and she will be taking requests for songs in the comments section of the video. In addition to live streaming, she will also be holding another concert on September 12. Called AyaCon volume 2 ~AYA BAND~ it will feature a selection of classical and contemporary pieces. It will be held at the JZ Brat club in the Cerulean Tower Tokyu Hotel. For those of you waiting in anticipation for season two of popular sports anime Kuroko no Basket, what better way to practice your fan skills than by indulging in some half-time goods? You might also need to exercise some self-restraint though, because this merchandise will make you feel like part of the original Teikou team. Seriously, check out this water bottle! If I actually played basketball, I would bring this bottle down against any enemy team to let them know who’s coming to the court. A foolproof plan, except for the fact that I play tennis and I don’t think the intimidation tactic would achieve the same effect… (For more anime news from SGCafe, click here). If you’re a fan of the “generation of miracles”, but at a more mature age, then don’t worry. The jersey key rings, in addition to the Teikou middle school jersey, also has Kuroko’s high school jersey. And if you root for the opposite team, then you’ll be happy to see rival high school Rakuzan’s Seijuro Akashi has been included.

It’s a chocolate-filled wafer that comes with a sticker and is popular with Japanese children. Bikkuriman became really popular to the point that it inspired several anime series as well as a manga during the 1980′s. Some of the stickers that come along with the wafer are now heavily priced and are considered collector’s items. Now, Japanese convenience store chain Family Mart is conducting a collaboration with popular vocaloid series, Hatsune Miku and Lotte to transform Bikkuriman into Mikkuriman. (More on Hatsune Miku here on SGCafe) This collaboration has been named “Mikkuriman ~ Miku to kimyōna nakama-tachi-hen ~” or “Mikkuriman, Miku and her strange friends“, and by strange friends I mean some of the other vocaloids like Luka, Kaito, Rin and Len. Like Bikkuriman, Mikkuriman are also chocolate filled wafers that come with a card.
  32. 32. August 3rd, 2013 Published by: VR-Zone 12 The package is designed by Dayo-San and shows your favorite vocaloid characters in a cute super-deformed manner. Some of the cards included with the wafer are quite common while some cards are rarer than others… much rarer. Which card you’ll get in a pack is completely random. This collaboration begins at the end of August. Here’s Family Mart’s blurred out teaser: Bikkuriman isn’t the only product Family Mart and Hatsune Miku are collaborating with because Morinaga & Co., Ltd is also getting a Vocaloid make-over with their own chocolate wafer, “Hito shizuku P× ya ma △ × suzu no suke Kyōsōkyoku Wafer Choco“. Each package comes with a random story card. These story cards come in 16 designs, each inspired by one of the following vocaloid songs: 01Bad ∞ End ∞ Night 02Crazy ∞ nighT 03Twilight ∞ nighT 04Himitsu ~ kuro no chikai ~ (△△ △△△△△△) 05Karakuri △ Burst (△△△△△△△△△) 06Trickery △ Casino (△△△△△△△△) 07”Synchronicity” series(△Synchronicity△△△△△ ) 08 Haitoku no Hana (△△△△) Like Mikkuriman, this collaboration also begins by the end of August 2013. Both products are going to be exclusively sold in Family Mart branches. Family Mart is one of the largest Japanese convenience store chains in the world with stores not just in Japan but also in the United States, China, Taiwan, South Korea, the Philippines, Indonesia and Thailand.

So you want to go to Comiket… Source: http://sgcafe.com/2013/08/so-you-want-to-go-to-comiket/? utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=so-you-want-to-go- to-comiket By Zenko on August 2nd, 2013 Comiket is now the largest even in Japan dedicated to all things otaku, and can be quite a beast to manage. But fear not, SGCafe readers! Follow our tips and you’ll manage to get around with no problem! Probably. Although it’s easy to find out what the major companies are planning to sell at Comiket, getting there and getting around can be difficult. Luckily, advice from some previous attendees can help you get around like a veteran. (Keep up with all your Comiket news here on SGCafe!) 1. Getting to Tokyo Big Sight As you may or may not know, the convention itself is held in Odaiba at Tokyo Big Sight. Getting to Odaiba itself can be a little difficult, and navigating it even more so. Luckily, the official site posts directions on how to get there. Going by train is the easiest, and usually the cheapest at 320 yen from Tokyo station. Simply hop on the JR Keiyo Line bound for Shin-Kiba and transfer to the Rinkai line, which will take you straight to Kokusai-Tenjijo station. It’s also possible to get there by taking the Keihin Kyuukou to the Yamanote line before transfering to Rinkai. Either way will get you where you need to go. From there the center is in walking distance, and you will most likely just have to find the crowd to know you’re there. 2. Getting into Comiket Unlike the Comic City events held around Japan the rest of the year which require you to buy the guide book as an entrance ticket, there is no fee to enter Comiket. However, there are two options to get into the building itself: early or late. If you want to get in early as the con opens and snatch up some limited goods, you’ll want to get there as early as possible. That may mean heading out early as you’ll want to be there at around 6 AM, sometimes earlier, if you want an early spot in line. The event itself opens at 10 AM and runs until 4 PM. If you don’t want to wait, though, you can show up at 12 PM and the lines will have cleared enough for you to usually walk right in. 3. Navigating Comiket Here comes the tricky part, and usually one you want to plan pre-Comiket. While you don’t have to purchase the guide book, it’s usually a better idea to do so as it will let you know what fandoms have which day of the convention, which booths you might want to visit, and what members of industry are where. The guide is split into the three days, with circles rotating each day. It will also let you know who is in the east building, and who is in the west, which as we all learned from Lucky Star, is about a one hour walk from one side to the other, so plan accordingly. A good way to do it is by going to the circles you really want to see first before heading to the industry booths and cosplay areas. 4. Cosplay at Comiket Although originally starting off small, cosplay at Comiket has ballooned to include the parking lots outside the center. There are certain rules and regulations, as well as etiquette you need to follow to ensure everyone remains happy. One way is to ask permission before you take a picture and then wait before snapping one. Often times a cosplayer will have a pose they prefer to be photographed in. If one cosplayer
  34. 34. August 3rd, 2013 Published by: VR-Zone 14 proves especially popular, the staff will set up a perimeter around them and begin a countdown. After it ends, you are expected to disperse, though if the cosplayer moves to a new location it could start all over again. Overall: stay polite, and you won’t get in trouble. If you plan on cosplaying at the event, keep in mind that it’s prohibited to appear and leave the market in cosplay. Instead you will have to make use of the changing rooms which have a usage fee of 500 yen for the entire weekend. 5. Final Advice If the crowd gets to be too much, you can always head to Diver City, which is a short train ride back to Daiba station. There are concerts by idol groups every so often, and you can always check out the 1:1 Gundam there at Tokyo Gundam Front. If you stay for the whole convention, be it winter or summer, make sure you stay hydrated. That is especially true during the summer Comiket, as it occurs during Tokyo’s hottest days of the year. If you go during winter, keep in mind that trains will be running on a holiday schedule and to double check your train time tables. The website Hyperdia is especially helpful for keeping track of when trains are coming and when you can expect to get where you’re going. Like any convention, it’s also a good idea to take a look at the etiquette pamphlets before hand to prevent yourself from getting into any trouble. If you ever make it to Comiket, let us know about your “spoils of war”. And of course, you can join in the community discussions going on right now in the forums to discuss all your otaku needs until then. Keep up with all your anime news here at SGCafe! Five current-season anime (Summer 2013) you should watch right now Source: http://sgcafe.com/2013/08/top-5- anime-to-watch-this-season-summer-2013/? utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=top-5-anime-to- watch-this-season-summer-2013 By Zenko on August 2nd, 2013 The summer season is just getting started, and a slew of great anime are hitting the airwaves. If you had to choose, though, here are five that you should definitely take a look at. Although there are some anime premiering later in August, most have started airing already. It’s not too late to catch up, and if you still aren’t sure here’s five excellent ones to take into consideration. (Keep up with all your anime news here at SGCafe) 5. Free! Currently the hot favorite of anime fangirls, Free! is tailor- made for the aforementioned audience and wastes no time in pulling out the fanservice. It’s something KyoAni has always done, though, even in K-On!, which was made for fans of all types. Free! doesn’t have to be just for girls. If you look past the humor you’ll find something else KyoAni is known for: its detailed animation work. The quality of the water scenes and overall smoothness to the animation alone make it worth watching. The little gags and jokes, such as teaching the glasses character how to swim, also give it the same slice- of-life feeling that K-On! was known for. If you enjoyed an anime dedicated to the light music club, there’s no reason you won’t enjoy this romp into the adventures of the swim club either. 4. Fantasista Doll
  35. 35. August 3rd, 2013 Published by: VR-Zone 15 One part Cardcaptor Sakura and one part Aikatsu, Fantasista Dolls aims to combine the story of a young girls’ growth with the marketing of dress-up card games. Fantasista Dolls, after all, need a wide variety of outfits and weapons to do combat with. This of course leads to quite a bit of moe moments, not just out of combat but during it. As more cards and abilities are revealed, more of this seems to come into play. It has its own Tuxedo Mask-like character and mystery origin story for the dolls, which has already been hinted at several times. While it’s probably the most childish anime out of those on this list, it’s also the most light-hearted and fun one. 3. Rozen Maiden Zurückspulen If you’re unable to get all your doll needs in Fantasista Dolls, the latest installment to Rozen Maiden is a step above with animation and story. Although there are a few errors every now and again left behind, such as a correction circle in epsiode three, overall it’s just as high quality as the original seasons. On top of that it features a very well organized time- line split scenario. If you were a fan of the original series, then definitely take a look at the latest addition to the trilogy. If you never watched the original, the first episode gives a decent basis as to what it’s about, so you don’t need any background knowledge to enjoy it. 2. Silver Spoon Although there are clubs in this next choice, they aren’t ones you would find at a normal high school. In fact, the closest anime and manga has gotten to covering it before is Moyashimon. Also based off of a manga, it looks at the life of one high schooler as he attempts to discover his agricultural dream. First he has to learn about the world of agriculture though, as he only transfered to the school to get away from home. A-1 and Aniplex have made it clear to fans that the locations exists in real-life, and encourages them to refrain from making a pilgrimage for the animals safety. You can tell they paid quite a pit of attention to the location themselves, as much of it is faithfully recreated, even the animals that appear and oftentimes lend humor to an otherwise serious situation. If you enjoy more realistic anime that you can learn from, Silver Spoon should be your choice this season. 1. Gatchaman Crowds Saving the best for last, Gatchman Crowds is the show you should most watch out of this list. It’s humorous, it’s full of action and suspense, and it breathes new life into the franchise. The power suits themselves are no longer equipment, but equipped in a magical girl like sequence. Speaking of magical girls, the Gatchaman are chosen this time around by a mysterious entity that grants them their powers by ripping out their souls. Don’t let the Madoka-like premise scare you away, as the main villain has yet to fully show their hand, nor does the creator of smartphone app GALAX and her Gatchaman Crowd have a clear role just yet. That leaves plenty of room for development and redemption to fans of the old series who aren’t quite enjoying it just yet. In the mean time, however, a strong set of action sequences spiced up with the enthusiasm of a cute-loving protagonist promise to keep it going strong. If you were a fan of the original, you will immediately notice quite a few differences. Putting the original aside, though, it stands up quite well on its own. Each of these series are currently streaming on Crunchyroll, along with the second season of Attack on Titan should you need to catch up with the goings on of Levi’s Survey Corps. 36. 36. August 3rd, 2013 Published by: VR-Zone 16 By KaleNagasaki on August 1st, 2013 Jump Square’s September issue revealed who will play favorite characters Aoshi Shinomori and Seta Sojiro in the second and third parts of the Rurouni Kenshin live-action trilogy coming out next summer. If you weren’t already excited that Tatsuya Fujiwara (Light Yagami from Death Note’s live-action film) is playing Shishio Makoto, then these next two additions to the crew will definitely pump you up. (For more on Rurouni Kenshin from SGCafe, click here). For those of you who read the manga or watched the anime, I am sure you were just as surprised and confused as I was at Aoshi Shinomori’s absence from the first film. In fact, the whole Oniwanbanshu – the ninja group that Aoshi leads – wasn’t mentioned. Well, I cannot tell you how glad I am that Aoshi Shinomori will be in the second film, and he will be played by none other than Yusuke Iseya. Just last month I watched director Takashi Miike’s 13 Assassins, a movie in which Yusuke played a very cool but comical fighter. However, you might better know Yusuke from Takashi Miike’s Sukiyaki Western: Django, Hirokazu Koreeda’s Distance, or perhaps from the manga-based Ashita no Joe. He’ll be bringing more than a handsome face to the set, to say the least. Next we have Seta Sojiro, the cold killer that lies behind a cool smile. Shishio Makoto’s right-hand man, Sojiro’s soft and pleasant face belies the murderer within. Ryunosuke Kamiki will be taking this part, and he is more than qualified to do so. Ryunosuke is no newbie to live-action films, and has played in Tantei Gakuen Q, and Honey & Clover. So what do you think? Are these the right people for the job? Personally, as long as I get to see more Sexy Sagara Sanosuke, everything will be alright. And, of course, the acting should be good…and stuff. 37. 37. August 3rd, 2013 Published by: VR-Zone 17 A localised English version of Music Girl Hatsune Miku – a music player app in which you can listen to tunes stored on your iPhone, play dress-up and interact with the popular virtual idol – has been launched on the iTunes app store today. The app, previously available in the Japanese iTunes app store only, has now been brought out in English all over the world thanks to the efforts of Marza Animation Planet – the same folks who worked on the opening videos for Hatsune Miku: Project Diva games, and the Hatsune Miku live concerts. (More stories on Hatsune Miku here on SGCafe) When it came out in Japan I’ve briefly checked out the app myself, and I must say, if you’re a Hatsune Miku fan who listens to music on your iPhone, you need to get this right away. In Music Girl Hatsune Miku, the Vocaloid star will do a little dance as she’s listening to your choice of music with you – the speed of her dance will depend on the song’s beats per minute (BPM). But what’s really cool about this app is that as you’re listening to music, you’re also passively building up stocks in a meter that can be expended to play a trivia game with Hatsune Miku. So don’t just listen to your music on your iPhone passively. With this app you can convert time spent enjoying music on your iPhone into opportunities to find out how well you know Hatsune Miku. You’ll get to know Miku better through the quizzes, too! Music Girl Hatsune Miku (E) is available on the iTunes app store now, available for US$3.99 (S$4.98). The app comes with a complimentary Harukaze costume pack. Other costume packs available as in-app purchases include those for YukiMiku 2013 (Snow Miku 2013). Have you ever played the game Senran Kagura or watched its anime? Now what do these two series have in common? These two series are full of action and excellent fight scenes, yes, that’s true, but that’s not what I am talking about. It’s because these two series are doing a collaboration and are celebrating the “Day of pie”. (More High School DXD and Senran Kagura here on SGCafe) Today, August 1 marks the “Day of Pie” or Pai no hi, also known as Nyuunyuu Festival. So, what does today celebrate?
  39. 39. August 3rd, 2013 Published by: VR-Zone 19 Here’s a clue, it’s are not celebrating a baked pastry encasing a filling that’s either sweet or savory, nor is it celebrating a certain mathematical constant. If you are thinking “oppai“, then you are on the right track. High Scool DXD and Senran Kagura are popular for a reason, and they have something to do with um… a woman’s chest area.Yes, “Day of pie” is celebrating “oppai” which in Japanese means… (forgive my French) Boobs. So what are the festivities for today? One is that it celebrates the rebroadcast of the Senran Kagura anime as well as two Senran Kagura games being sold at a discounted price for a month. The digital version of Senran Kagura Burst for the Nintendo 3DS will be sold at half its original price going from 5,980 yen to 2,990 yen while the digital version of Senran Kagura Shinovi Versus for the PS Vita will be sold for 4,980 yen. Another one would be the release of a special limited Katsuragi card for the Senran Kagura New Wave mobile game which is up for digital download for GREE users in Japan. And finally, a collaboration artwork between High School DXD and Senran Kagura will be released for the respective official websites for both series. There are three variants with all three special wallpapers showing the main girls for both series, Asuka and Rias Gremory. Both High School DXD and Senran Kagura are known for copious amounts of fan service, “bouncy stuff” and a whole lot of clothing damage. There hasn’t been any battle in the two series that does not involve female clothing being torn to shreds to reveal what’s underneath. Read more anime news here on SGCafe. 40. 40. August 3rd, 2013 Published by: VR-Zone 20 By Zenko on August 1st, 2013 Summer time means good food and good music. And for Momoiro Clover Z it also means the delicious taste of yakiniku. Pepsi and Momoiro Clover Z are teaming up for a new promotional campaign called Pepsi Healthy Summer, with the idol group starring in the commercial ad to promote the soft drink. (Even more Momoiro Clover Z here on SGCafe!) In it, the girls are visiting a yakiniku shop and are stopped short as they order juice to drink. A triceratops plaque on the wall, voiced by Testuya Tekeda of Kinpachi Sensei fame, chimes in rudely and says that the Momoiro girls’ drink of choice is stupid. The girls are then encouraged to order Pepsi Special instead, as it has no calories. The special in Pepsi Special is that it’s said to promote weightloss through one of the chemicals in it. Pepsi Nex, another zero calorie Pepsi, will also be featured as part of the campaign to help promote the special Pepsi Live concert, called “Pepsi Presents Momoiro Clover Zero Live~Pepsi as a health food with zero calories, right Z!?”. Fans will have a chance to win tickets to attend the show by purchasing Pepsi Special and Pepsi Nex. If you don’t win a ticket, though, there will also be chances to win special collaborative goods. The campaign itself runs from August 5 to September 1 and was done partially because they wanted everyone to eat healthy together, but also because the group really enjoys the taste of Pepsi. Sony sheds more light on the PS4 Source: http://sgcafe.com/2013/08/sony-sheds-more-light-on-ps4/? utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=sony-sheds-more- light-on-ps4 By Zenko on August 1st, 2013 After watching the debacle that was the fans reaction to the Xbox One (Xbone), Sony, via PlayStationAccess, is answering ten of fans’ biggest questions. Fans weighed in with their questions, and the YouTube channel PlayStationAccess, an official UK-based news channel for all things PlayStation, has taken it upon themselves to answer. (Keep up with all your PS4 news here on SGCafe!) Of course, one of the biggest questions burning in fans minds is just now much room they should make for the eraser- shaped console. That was highlighted briefly in the video with a PS3 set on the table for comparison, but a full PS3 to PS4 one was made as its own video. In it you can see that despite its shape, the PS4 is overall a lot smaller than its predecessor’s launch model. A minor difference pointed out in the later video: the PS4′s launch color will be Jet Black, whereas the PS3′s was Piano Black. Other questions fans asked included whether or not the DualShock3 controller would be compatible at all with the sytsem. Unfortunately it will not be, but don’t sell all your controllers just yet: the PlayStation Move will be compatible with the system. Speaking of compatible, PSN accounts, avatar and all, will carry over to the PS4 and you will be able to customize how much personal information is made public. You will be able to keep up to 2000 friends notified of what you’re up to with PartyChat as it makes a return from the PS Vita.
  41. 41. August 3rd, 2013 Published by: VR-Zone 21 The Xross Media Bar will also be changing to the new PlayStation Dynamic Menu, which will be customizable in terms of layout and other previous Xross Media features. As you may have noticed, the PlayStation Camera is making a return with the added benefit of AR and a slew of upgrades. It will have 3D depth and utilize the DualShock4 controller to bring out the full potential of the PlayRoom app. It also now includes four microphones to make not only sound input, but output, a possibility. Speaking of 3D, they do have plans in the future to make 3D games available on the console. As far as paying to go online is concerned, they have made it clear that you will only need the PSPlus account to play multiplayer online. You will not need it to access free to play games, Netflix, or single player mode. Read even more on gaming here at SGCafe! Continuing a legacy of awesome, from Sora’s Keyblade to Cloud’s Buster Sword, Tony Swatton is answering fans demands for yet another epic masterpiece of metal. The Master Sword has finally been recreated as a fully functioning blade. (Check out Tony Swatton’s recreation of the buster sword from Final Fantasy VII here on SGCafe) Although he had to call in some help from someone skilled at sand molding for the pommel, a technique Swatton points out to be life threatening because “if even a single speck of moisture gets in the mold, it will explode.” Luckily for them, there’s no explosion, nor is there any trouble with the difficult to forge bronze. After adding finishing touches to the blade, it proves itself worthy of the Hero of Time as it slashes through pots and heart containers, and slices threw melons in a way not even a chef’s knife can. Today, those rumours have been confirmed; a 2ch forumer has leaked the first official details of the Silver Spoon live- action movie from an unidentified print publication, along with the following pictorial evidence: (More Silver Spoon-related news here on SGCafe) According to the print article, the movie will star Kento Nakajima and Alice Hirose as Yugo Hachiken and Aki Mikage respectively. “I’d like to play this role to the best of my ability so as to leave no regrets behind, and fully immerse myself into the world of Silver Spoon,” Nakajima said to the Japanese press while cosplaying as Yugo Hachiken, complete with the character’s trademark black spectacles. “With this role I was able to experience life on a dairy farm and horseback riding. Through the movie I’d like to convey the joy of that experience to people who’ve never done these activities before,” he added. Filming for the movie begun on August 3, and is expected to wrap up sometime in mid September. Preparation for the shoot, however, begun way before the August 3 date. For instance, lead actress Alice Hirose said that prior to the start of filming, she had already lived on the dairy farm for about two weeks in order to prepare herself for the role. Other than Nakajima and Hirose, two other cast members were revealed in the print article. Film veteran Ryuhei Ueshima will play the role of Oezo Agricultural High School’s pricipal, while Mikihiro Ogawa (better known as Nakamura Shidou II) has been cast as the equestrian club’s advisor. The Silver Spoon live-action movie is expected to hit theatres in Japan sometime in Spring 2014. So if you happen to be in Japan, make sure to go on down to Family Mart or your favourite hobby shop to take part! For the uninitiated, Ichikan Kuji is not a real lottery – you’re guaranteed to win something upon ponying up 800 yen, on the spot. The way it works is that you hand your money to the Ichiban Kuji reseller, and draw a lot that will determine the rank of your prize. From there, you are allowed to pick any item available at the reseller that corresponds to the rank indicated on the lot you drew. So for instance, if you drew an S or an A lot, then you get to take home the “Saber Premium Figure”, which is approximately 20 centimeters in height. The only differences between the two are that the S rank figure features a golden sword and Saber with her hair down, while the A prize features Saber with her hair tied up wielding a silver sword. (To read more anime news from SGCafe, click here). The B prize is a figure of Emiya Kiritsugu and is about 21 and a half centimeters. Just look at Kiritsugu rocking that trench. I want it already. But let’s not forget about the C prize now. The C prize is a Lancer figure, standing at 22 centimeters tall.

The title was the first game in the well-loved ”The Alchemist of Arland” series of titles, partially due to the fact that renowned illustrator Mel Kishida worked on character designs for the entire series. The second and third games, Atelier Totori and Atelier Meruru, have already received enhanced ports (Atelier Totori Plus and Atelier Meruru Plus) on the PS Vita. Since the game mechanics and character models in Atelier Rorona are quite a bit more dated than the Totori and Meruru games, Gust has decided to do a remake altogether, and release it both on the PS3 and PS Vita. The games will support the PS3 and Vita’s cross-save feature, allowing gamers who own both versions to transfer their save file back and forth. New Atelier Rorona will feature brand new character models redone from scratch and said to be closely adhering to the
  51. 51. August 7th, 2013 Published by: VR-Zone 10 original character illustrations. Mel Kishida himself will be supervising the character modelings for the remake. In terms of story and event scenes, New Atelier Rorona will be quite a bit longer than the original — the in-game timeline has been expanded by about a year, with brand new events added to tell the story beyond what fans played in the original Atelier Rorona. There will be new battle and story characters – perhaps a few familiar faces to fans who’ve played the later games, or so Dengeki PlayStation hints. Mechanics-wise, the gameplay systems here are largely based on those from Atelier Meruru Plus, so fans can expect things like a costume change system, and death blow animations. Other new features include a vegetable farming minigame, and a “Time Capsule” that allows Rorona to seal away items for a period of time to make them better or stronger. Dengeki PlayStation also hints that one of the costumes you can have Rorona change into is not so much a costume, but a character entirely. That character (any guesses?). New Atelier Rorona is slated for a November 2013 release. Gamers who purchase a first-print edition will receive a swimsuit costume DLC for free. There will also be limited edition PS3 and PS Vita packages. The PS3 LE comes with a crystal paperweight, and a skin for your Dual Shock 3 controller, while the PS Vita version will instead come with a mini crystal paperweight (so that you may carry it with you everywhere) and a skin for your Vita. Kirino’s intro is helping shed some light on that matter. By now the premise for OreImo HD is pretty clear: you talk to the little sisters and become their manager as they quest for true idol status. But just why do they want to become idols? These screenshots give some idea of just what happened to set it off. In the first screenshot we see Kuroneko telling Kyousuke she’s not joking around about becoming an idol and for him to choose who should take the audition. Kirino of course debates that she should be the one to take it. All of this started due to Saori mentioning that there’s an amateur idol audition coming up. (If you love Oreimo, check out more at SGCafe!) After the girls have had their say so it’s up to Kyousuke to choose just who should take the audition. You can choose neither, Kirino or Kuroneko. In this scenario, Kirino was chosen. After telling her that she should be the one to take the audition, she’s of course thrilled but also demands quite a bit from you, including entering into an agreement to become her manager. Kirino drives a hard bargain, reminding her older brother about the Meruru event that she would be able to perform at if she passed the audition. After Kuroneko leaves and Kirino takes you to her room for a firm reminder that you’ll be working for her, the introduction ends. But not before she makes Kyousuke sign his life away to her. The Kuroneko scenario likely plays out similarly, but with more angry Kirino in it. How Ayase, Kanako and Manami get pulled into the idol auditions is not yet clear, but it’s bound to be interesting (and likely abusive with Ayase). The game is set to be released on September 26 of this year. Keep up with all your game news here on SGCafe! Feel free to join in the discussions on gaming going on in the forums.
