  • 2. What is Academic Writing?
    • Academic Writing is done by scholars for scholars. It includes reading, thinking, arguing and writing according to academic parameters.
    • Writing: an important communication skill in college.
  • 3. The Academic Writing Situation
    • Audience: primarily the professor
    • Occasion/context: an assignment
    • Message: what was learnt or the interpretation gained from a study.
    • Purpose: to show what was learnt and get a good grade.
    • Genre: type of document used (the essay is the most frequently used).

  • 5. TASK 1: Profile & Biodata
    • Audience: the professor, other scholars, students, world wide web
    • Occasion/context: an assignment
    • Message: personal, professional and academic information

    • 7. Style: more formal
    • 8. Length: no more than one paragraph
    • 9. Image: picture of student’s face
