2010May14 – Communication and Presentation Skills – Executive Development Programme of the Institute of Company Secretaries of India, Hyderabad Chapter. This is a live recording of the speech, in English, [ with a liberal sprinkling of Hindi ] to a group of participants of Executive Development Programme of the Institute of Company Secretaries of India, Hyderabad Chapter. A Power Point presentation, titled as Communication and Presentation Skills was specially prepared for this purpose, and was used along with an earlier presentation titled Communication Skills. The importance of communication skills was explained, along with related aspects such as internal and external communication, errors in communication, and certain hints were provided, which if practiced, will certainly improve the quality of communication of the participants, and will certainly lead to an improvement in the quality of their life. Further, the importance of Presentations, in the context of professional life, was explained. Certain helpful hints were given about making presentations. You would be better able to appreciate the beauty and the purpose of the presentation when both the audio version, uploaded to www.archive.org [please search for Prof. V. Each time the presentation is made, as a teacher, I ensure that right from the introduction to the development of the theme, it is done differently, the examples are appropriate to the audience, the language style, and the mixture of local language, some times with local accent, – an attempt is made to create a unique blend. This is being mentioned, so as to make it clear that you may not feel bored or disinterested, and by listening to two or more lectures on the same topic, presented before different audiences, at various places, you may actually obtain a better insight into the scope of the topic. 26. Identify the topic, its scope, purpose of presentation, nature of audience, points to be touched, time available, etc. and start developing your thoughts.

27. Discuss, if necessary, with others and then organise the information collected in a logical manner and draft the outline of your presentation

28. Let the actual presentation be short and crisp [ let all the details be in your mind / notes ]

29. Begin with the draft presentation. Improve it continuously, Content-wise, Quality-wise, Presentation-wise, etc. May be, you would need two or three revisions before finalizing.

30. Keep in view – Pre-view The View Re-view technique, always in your view.

31. Tell the audience what you are going to tell them, tell them, and then tell them What you told them.

32. Examples in your presentation must help the audience to relate to your talk

33. Anticipate the tough questions in advance; Come prepared with solutions

34. Good presentation skills can make persuasive communication happen.
