    • Vision Disorders are the fourth most common disability in the United States and the most prevalent handicapping condition in childhood. Between 10-12 million children are affected.
    • -American Foundation for Vision Awareness
      • 37% of fourth-grade students fall below “basic” knowledge of reading, meaning they can read little beyond simple words and sentences and cannot draw conclusions from what they read.

    • 70% of juvenile delinquents tested have vision problems, which interfere with their ability to learn .

  • 42. This made reading very difficult, didn’t it? Children with tracking problems can’t control their eye movements during reading. They lose their place or have to use a finger to guide their eyes. Is it any wonder these children don’t like to read? visionandlearning.org
  • 43. 1 in 4 children in every classroom have vision problems that interfere with their ability to read, learn, and stay on task . visionandlearning.org
  • 44. Because the strain on their eyes is so great, these kids often look like they have learning disabilities or ADD--when the real problem is their vision! visionandlearning.org
  • 45. These vision problems don’t show up in school screenings. A child can have 20/20 vision, or normal sight at distance, and still not have the visual skills he needs to read and maintain good attention. visionandlearning.org
