THE FRUIT OF THE SPIRIT
Not just emotions or feelings. It’s a decision to commit for the well being of others,
My command is this: Love each other as I have loved you. Greater love has no one than
this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends. (John 15:12-14)
“Agape” - Love which seeks the highest good of others.
Not based on circumstances. Obtained by doing the will of God. Like sharing the
gospel, fellowship with others.
Though you have not seen him, you love him; and even though you do not see him
now, you believe in him and are filled with an inexpressible and glorious joy, 9 for
you are receiving the end result of your faith, the salvation of your souls.1 Peter 1:8-
“Chara” Gladness, delight,
a special presence of God.
The state of assurance, lack of fear provided only by God. Also is the unity between
believers. Freedom from worry and oppressive thoughts
And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts
and your minds in Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:7
“Eirene” Peace between individuals, harmony,
Slowness in avenging wrongs. The quality which keeps the believer from responding
to negative situations out of hatred and anger etc.
And we urge you, brothers and sisters, warn those who are idle and disruptive,
encourage the disheartened, help the weak, be patient with everyone. Make
sure that nobody pays back wrong for wrong, but always strive to do what is
good for each other and for everyone else. 1 Thessalonians 5:14-15
“Makrothumia” Long suffering, bearing fruits
The eagerness to put others at ease. A sweet and attractive temperament that
shows friendly regard.
A kindhearted woman gains honor, but ruthless men gain only wealth.
Those who are kind benefit themselves, but the cruel bring ruin on themselves.
“Chrestotes” Merciful, easy to bear, morally good
Selfless desire to open yourself and be generous to others even they don’t deserve it.
This is a trustworthy saying. And I want you to stress these things, so that those
who have trusted in God may be careful to devote themselves to doing what is
good. These things are excellent and profitable for everyone. Titus 3:8
“Agathosune” Useful, generous
Firm devotion to God, loyalty to friends, discharging responsibilities properly, the
belief that Jesus died for our sins.
His master replied, 'Well done, good and faithful servant! You have been faithful
with a few things; I will put you in charge of many things. Come and share your
master's happiness! Matthew 25:21
“Pistis” Trust, conviction
Humble non threatening demeanor that derives from a position of strength and
authority, and is useful in calming another’s anger. This not being weak and
to slander no one, to be peaceable and considerate, and always to be gentle
toward everyone. Titus 3:2
“Prautes” Humble, meek
Restrain one’s emotions, actions and desires, and to be in harmony with the will of
God. Self control is God’s will, not living for one’s self.
For the grace of God has appeared that offers salvation to all people. It teaches us
to say “No” to ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-
controlled, upright and godly lives in this present age. Titus 2:11-12
