  • Don’t say anything you wouldn’t say publically – even as a private message.Never post offensive material.Humor is allowed and encouraged! Just keep it “safe for work.”
  • Often people don’t strategically plan their networking events, they just keep going to every event they can, collecting business cards. The best approach is to start with your BEST contacts. Don’t just upload your entire email contact list to LinkedIn. My 1500 contacts – rediscovered some really valuable old contacts and got back in touch.Take the time to sort people into groups, this will help you after you have determined your business goals.Faster, quicker & more targeted than offline networking, but it is not a replacement for real-life.
  • Social Media IS SOCIAL. It takes time for people to get to know, like and trust you before they get moved into your sales funnel. THIS IS TRUE ONLINE & OFFLINE.As you share content, your target audience is getting a sense of your brand. To be successful, understand this process can take some time while keeping your end goals in mind. It’s a balance.

  • Conversations Impact Business  People online and offline are talking about EVERYTHING, perhaps about your brand or industry.  Think about a positive experience you had with a business…. Don’t you share with your network? What about a negative experience?  Conversations not directly related to your business can still build relationships with your audience.  Relationships build trust!AMPLIFY Your Purpose with Virtuallinda • www.amplifyyourpurpose.com 2 ©2013 Virtuallinda Media LLC • www.virtuallinda.com
  • Relationships First SOCIAL MEDIA IS A COCKTAIL PARTY.  It’s 80% social, 20% business.  Let people get to know you FIRST. Leading to, “What do you do”?  Be available to answer questions and be helpful.  Be yourself and let your personality shine online! Wouldn’t you rather do business with a friend?  Don’t turn off your contacts by only talking about your own self-promotion. This is a subtle sales process.AMPLIFY Your Purpose with Virtuallinda • www.amplifyyourpurpose.com 3 ©2010 Byte Sized Learning • www.bytesizedlearning.com
  • A Subtle Sales Process Social media is about the soft sell with your personality. This is a big shift from the pushy sales pitches that were popular in the past. People now connect with the human side of your brand. Soft Sell Personality Hard Sell  Educational content  Personal likes & interests  Extremely self promoting  Industry info from others  Show your sense of humor  Updates all about you  Builds your brand gently  Be interested in engaging  Buy my products NOW!  Shares your knowledge with your audience  ANYTHING IN ALL CAPS!  Use instead of hard sell  Conversations lead to sales  Limit these types of updates Occasionally you can present your sales offers, but limit to only about 20% of the time and only after you have developed relationships.AMPLIFY Your Purpose with Virtuallinda • www.amplifyyourpurpose.com 4 ©2013 Virtuallinda Media LLC • www.virtuallinda.com
  • Giving Leads to Receiving Sharing knowledge and recommending others will grow your business  Think like a “Go-Giver” (great book!)  If content that you contribute is VALUABLE, people who see it may be motivated to share it with others!  Think of someone sharing your content as a powerful, “word of mouth” referral.  Share your recommendations online. Don’t you prefer a recommendation from a friend over an ad?  Looking for a specific type of contact? Ask the opinion of your network.AMPLIFY Your Purpose with Virtuallinda • www.amplifyyourpurpose.com 5 ©2010 Byte Sized Learning • www.bytesizedlearning.com
  • Multiple “Touches” Use multiple “touches” to get to know your community.  Use a combination of traditional marketing, social networking and in-person contact.  Give your personal time to your highest priority contacts.  Get to know people by having conversations.  Ask questions and share content that reinforces your key messages.  Quality relationships take time to build and maintain, but social media makes this process easier! Take your contacts through the engagement process, leading to sales, referrals and meeting your other business goals.AMPLIFY Your Purpose with Virtuallinda • www.amplifyyourpurpose.com 6 ©2013 Virtuallinda Media LLC • www.virtuallinda.com

  • Become Easy to Refer Online content is easy to pass on to your contacts.  Business cards, brochures and printed material must be personally passed on.  In contrast, online profiles and websites are available 24/7. A contact will never lose this.  Adding content on a regular basis expands on who you are, like an in-person meeting.  This leads to someone getting to KNOW, LIKE & TRUST you before ever calling or emailing. You never know how someone might reach you! Every social profile you create opens up a new road to your business.AMPLIFY Your Purpose with Virtuallinda • www.amplifyyourpurpose.com 11 ©2012 Byte Sized Learning • www.bytesizedlearning.com
