The Virogard Re-Usable Protective Mask is lightweight and contoured for an ergonomic fit to the face such that it can be worn without discomfort for long periods.

Apart from the high quality materials and workmanship incorporated in their manufacture, the key difference with Virogard masks lies in their antimicrobial action.

Virogard Masks will kill Influenza Type A virus, Ecoli and Tuberculosis on contact – not simply trap viable virus on the mask surface or within its fibers.

 1. 1. The Virogard Difference: surgical mask
 2. 2. Conventional Fabric Masks The Virogard Difference: P2/FFP-2/N95 Respirator SLIDE: 1/8

Surgical Mask;

Provides limited protection against direct contamination.

Minimal protection for the wearer against airborne bacteria or viruses and virtually none if saturated from wearer’s breath.

If externally contaminated can act as a source of area cross-contamination during exhalation .

 3. 3. Conventional Fabric Masks The Virogard Difference: P2/FFP-2/N95 Respirator SLIDE: 3/8

P2/FFP-2/N95 Respirator;

Originally intended for dust protection

Good protection against direct and airborne particles; variable quality and fit.

If contaminated can act as a fomite – viruses remain viable on and in the fabric for up to 8 hours – and thus a source of cross contamination .

 4. 4. The Virogard Difference The Virogard Difference: The Virogard Difference SLIDE: 3/8

The Virogard P2 mask retains all the filtration features of a conventional fabric respirator. Additionally, it has:

An ergonomic design for greater comfort – and thus more likely to be worn for longer periods [ no mask is any use unless it is worn for the entire duration of a threat]

Both outer fabric layers incorporating an anti-microbial treatment such that bacteria and viruses cannot survive on or in the material.

Successfully completed fit testing against a range of facial configurations.

 5. 5. Anti-microbial treatment The Virogard Difference: Anti-microbial treatment SLIDE: 4/8

The Virogard fabric treatment process is a unique Australian development. The process is a trade secret but essentially involves a cured polymer coating on the fabric fibres. This coating draws viral particles (and bacteria) into close contact and tears the outer layer of the organism – which then dies on exposure to air. The coating:

Is entirely safe to humans.

Cannot leach – its effectiveness lasts for the life of the fabric and will survive even washing or hot ironing.

Contains no heavy metals, fluoro chemicals, pesticides, nor nano-particles.

 6. 6. Testing Testing: Overview SLIDE: 5/8

Relevant testing has included both the mask itself and the anti-microbial performance.

Mask. Testing to AS/NZS 1716 Standard to P2 level. This Standard is similar to NIOSH N95 and European FFP-2 but with the added criterion of “facial fit”. Testing conducted by “TestSafe Australia”.

Antimicrobial performance. A key test has been against “Influenza Type A”. All known or potential pandemic strains of influenza virus – including the contemporary H5N1 (Bird Flu) and H1N1 (Swine Flu) – are of the Influenza virus Type A. Testing conducted by an independent laboratory (AMS Laboratories, Sydney).
