This kind of myth is not just factually false, but very wrongconcept as a whole. It is true that Google is the leader in search services and algorithms. But then, noparticular engine can serve every single user on this planet, at least not yet. Moreover, Yahoo! AndMicrosoft is making inroads into information searching services and even boasts of a sizable portion ofthe online population. Apart from them there are others too that are slowly but certainly emerging fromthe shadows. Therefore, this article aims to point out some of the prominent and common players in thesearch market.Google needs first mention partly due to its long dominance as the most popular search destination ofthe world. This brainchild of Larry Page and Sergery Brin, has been a hit ever since its inception way backin 1997. It introduced the revolutionary Page Rank that has become the bedrock of modern SEOtechniques and is being incorporated into every other search engine till date. Page Rank is a system thatcan analyze not only interrelationships between websites but also the relevance and importance of asingle web page.Yahoo! Search is the web search engine belonging to Yahoo! that primarily started as a website directoryrunning on a hierarchical type of algorithm instead of an index type. But with fruitful partnerships andeffective updates, Yahoo! Search started getting smarter. On July 2009, it partnered with Microsoft toink a technology sharing deal by virtue o which Yahoo! Search could use Bing technology to power itssearch algorithms. As a result, it shares an appreciable presence in many European and Asian countries.Microsofts offering, Bing was formerly known under many pseudonyms namely MSN Search, WindowsLive Search etc. enjoys a good 11.8% of the search market making it the 3rd most popular search engine. In June 2009, it entered a 10 year pact with Yahoo! to control its search engine Yahoo! Searchs searchtechnology. By doing so, it also gained prominence in the world market as a technology rich system. Itgives direct contact to Microsoft sites and as a result of Microsofts dominance over the softwareindustry, enjoys much of the search inquiries. It also available in a number of languages and hence quitepopular in the emerging markets around the world.Ask.com is another common search engine popular in North American as well as certain Europeanterritories. Formerly known under the name Ask Jeeves, it was more of a Q&A site that encouragedpeople to ask as well as answer questions through simple and understandable use of language. For thisreason, Ask.com is still used by many for the same purpose. But, with major enhancements made in itssearch parameters and foreign language extensions, Ask.com is becoming more and more popular incountries like France, Germany, Spain and Russia.Author is an expert in Online Marketing.
