(at birth) to 18,000 sq cm </li></ul><ul><li>(at adulthood). </li></ul><ul><li>Total weight of skin is about 4.8 kgs in men </li></ul><ul><li>and 3.2 kgs in women. </li></ul><ul><li>The thickness of skin varies – thinnest on the </li></ul><ul><li>eyelids and thickest on the palms of hands and </li></ul><ul><li>feet. </li></ul>

Why do we need to take care of Skin? <ul><li>Because the SKIN… </li></ul><ul><li>Is the first line of defense. </li></ul><ul><li>Appreciation of senses – touch, pain and temperature. </li></ul><ul><li>Provide thermoregulation with the help of sweat glands & blood vessels. </li></ul><ul><li>Protects from physical & chemical injury like UV rays. </li></ul><ul><li>Prevents water loss. </li></ul><ul><li>Synthesizes Vitamin D. </li></ul>

Why Now? </li></ul><ul><li>There are lot of reasons that cause changes in the skin, like: </li></ul><ul><li>Non medical reasons: </li></ul><ul><li>Environment - Pollution, dust, etc…. </li></ul><ul><li>Seasonal Changes - too much of heat or cold humidity, etc… </li></ul><ul><li>Changes in the life style, Improper diet, Stress, etc.. </li></ul><ul><li>Wrong usage of skin care products, Excessive sun exposure, etc…. </li></ul><ul><li>Medical reasons: </li></ul><ul><li>Changes in the hormones, </li></ul><ul><li>Menstrual Cycle, Drugs – taken for Medical reasons, Pills, etc. </li></ul>
