  1. 1. ENVIRONMENTAL POLLUTION VIJAYAM DEGREE COLLEGE 1st YEAR B.C.C.A BY K.Yamini
  2. 2. Contents *Definition *Types of pollution *Causes *Effect *Measures
  3. 3. Types of pollution
  4. 4. Water pollution refers to the contamination of water bodies such as rivers, oceans, lakes, and groundwater caused by human activities. This can be harmful to plants and organisms which live in these water bodies.
  5. 5. Causes of water pollution
  6. 6. Effects of water pollution
  7. 7. Measures of water pollution
  8. 8. Soil pollution is formed when man made chemicals get into the soil and change the natural soil environment. Oil and fuel dumping, pesticides and underground storage units are some of the main culprits.
  9. 9. Causes of soil pollution
  10. 10. Measures of soil pollution
  11. 11. NOISE POLLUTION
  12. 12. Causes of sound pollution
  13. 13. Effects of sounds pollution *Noise increases the chances of occurrence of diseases such as headache, blood pressure, heart failure, etc
  14. 14. Measures of sound pollution
  15. 15. ACID RAINS HERBERT BORMANN THE YALE AND DART MOUTH ECOLOGIST WHO DISCORVED ACID RAINS IN 1971
  16. 16. ACID RAINS IS CAUSED BECAUSE INCREASING LEVEL OF SULPHUR DIOXIDE AND NITROEN OXIDE IN THE AIR
  17. 17. IN 1971 BORMANN DISOVERED THAT THE WATIER IN THE NEW HAMPSHIRE FOREST WHERE HE WAS CONDUCTING HIS RESEARCH WAS FILLED WITH ACID RAINS
  18. 18. MORE AMOUNT OF SULPHUR AND NITROGEN RELEASED BY CARS AND INDUSTRIAL PROCESSES .ACID RAINS IS ALSO CALLED AS ACID DEPOSITION
  19. 19. HOW ACID RAIN FORMS ACID RAIN FORMS WHEN WATER VAPOUR AND CERTAIN ELEMENTS COMBINE WITH MAN MADE POLLUTANT SUCH AS NO IN THE ATMOSPHERE FORMING SULPHUR AND NITRIC ACID IN STATOSPHERE
  20. 20. ACID RAIN DEPOSIT IN THE FORM OF RAIN ,SNOW IN WET CONDITIONS AND IN DRY CONDITIONS IN FORM OF GASES AND PARTICLES.
  21. 21. ACID RAIN AND DESTRUCTION ON CANADA FOR THE LAST TEN YEARS ACID RAIN GOT DESTRUCTION ON CANADA AND SOM E PARTS OF EUROPE. IT IS THE MOST COMMON PROBLEM IN EASTERN CANADA BECAUSE OF LCK OF NATURAL ALKINITY IN WATER AND SOIL SYSTEM
  22. 22. ACID RAINS FORMS WHEN OXIDES POF NITROGEN AND SULPHUR COMBINE WITH ATMOSPHERE. SOME OF ACID RAIN ON HANDS
  23. 23. HOW ACID RAIN AFFECT ON FISHES ACID RAIN FLOWS THROUGH WATER SHED ALUMINIUM IS RELEASED FROM WATER INTO LAKES AND STREAM LOCATED IN WATER SHED.
  24. 24. PH OF LAKE DECREASES ALUMINIUM LEVEL INCREASES .BOTH LOW PH AND INCREASED ALUMINIUM ARE DIRECTLY TOXIC TO FISHES. SO THEY BANNED EATING FISHES IN SOME COUNTRIES DUE TO ACID RAINS
  25. 25. ACID RAIN EFFECT ON PLANTS acidic water dissolves the nutrients and helpful minerals in the soil and then washes them away before trees and other plants can use them to grow.
  26. 26. AT THE same time, acid rain causes the release of substances that are toxic to trees and plants, such as aluminum, into the soil
  27. 27. SAVE NATURE AND SAVE OUR FUTURE
  28. 28. FOR
  29. 29. K.YAMINI I am thank ful to THEJOMURTHY SIR,PRASADSIR,NALINI MAM, FOR GIVING THIS OPPURTUNITY
