  2. 2. I ntroduction <ul><li>This is an intercultural and multilingual project addressed to 6th grade primary students developed in the foreign language classroom, the only space where all students share the same foreign language . </li></ul>
  3. 3. <ul><li>The objectives of the project are: </li></ul><ul><li>Promote positive attitudes towards languages and make all the cultures visible through the different languages that coexist in the classroom </li></ul><ul><li>Increase motivation towards language learning </li></ul><ul><li>Improve academic performance in English </li></ul><ul><li>Increase intercultural communicative competence </li></ul>

The English teacher explains the aims of the project: </li></ul><ul><li>- Students will have to create stories based on stories that will have been told by the English teacher. </li></ul><ul><li>- The stories have to be addressed to very young readers as they will be told to P3, P4 and P5 children on the day of Sant Jordi . </li></ul><ul><li>- Stories will be written in English and also translated into all the languages spoken in each group. </li></ul>Steps

The three stories are: </li></ul><ul><li>- The Story of the very hungry Caterpillar by Eric Carle </li></ul><ul><li>- Brown bear, Brown bear what do you see by Bill Martin </li></ul><ul><li>- Where’s Spot? by Eric Carle </li></ul>

  7. 7. <ul><li>4. Groups are organised by the teacher taking into account: - mother tongue - academic performance </li></ul><ul><li>- motivation </li></ul><ul><li>5. They are given a sheet of paper with a general outline. They decide on the plot and the characters and the main illustrations </li></ul>

  9. 9. <ul><li>6. They make a draft of the pages of the book they are creating and the text they should include. The sentences should be short and simple and the pictures big, clear and colourful to motivate younger children </li></ul>

  11. 11. <ul><li>7. Once the draft has been completed and the sentences corrected, all the text written in English is translated into their mother tongue: Urdu, Tagalog, Spanish, Chinese, Arabic, Bangla and / or Catalan. Students help each other to translate and to write. </li></ul>

  13. 13. 8. They copy the text in English and in all the different languages and do the illustrations
  14. 15. <ul><li>9. They rehearse the storytelling adding non verbal language, mimics and intonation in order to catch the attention of the very young learners. The story will be told in English and then in all the languages of the group. Each student reads some of the story in English and in his or her mother tongue. </li></ul><ul><li>10. They plan an easy activity to do with the children according to the age of the younger children. </li></ul>
