  • 2. ROMANTIC PERIOD The Romantic period is a literary movement Originated in England in 1798 and ended 1832  The Romantic period was not only about Literature, but was also about art and music. 
  • 3. LITERATURE IN THE ROMANTIC PERIOD  The literary and artistic movement known as Romanticism originated (with the publication of the “Lyrical Ballads”, a collection of poems by William Wordsworth and Samuel Taylor Coleridge)
  • 4. WRITERS OF THE LYRICAL BALLADS WILLIAM WORDSWORTH SAMUEL TAYLOR COLERIDGE
  • 5. ROMANTIC PERIOD The era was a reaction against the Age of Reason that saw both the American and the French Revolutions.  . Romanticism emphasized everything the previous age had not. 
  • 6. TENETS OF THE ROMANTIC PERIOD Feelings, emotions  Fantasy- The heart over the head--mysticism and instinct, natural man over civilized man.  Nature- they saw nature as a source of inspiration. 
  • 7. WHAT HAPPENED…IMPACTS King George iii was king  In Britain there was instability, uncertainty, it was a time of war-social and political upheavals.  The Romantic period marked the beginning of the Industrial age/ revolution.  The American and French Revolution. 
